    Which server to pick?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 08:35 PM PST

Hello, I haven't played maple in years and I've noticed most of the servers are gone now. I've been snooping around but can't really find a definitive answer on which server to pick. I want to pick the game back up with my friends, there's six of us and we can't really spend money on the game atm. Is Bera playable at all for f2p? And how big of a hinderance is not being able to trade in reboot? (correct me if i'm wrong) I'm going back into maple mostly blind so any tips and advice would be nice! My friends also have not played at all before.

Black Heaven Storyline (Lotus and Orchid)

    Posted: 16 Dec 2019 01:17 AM PST

So besides the actual gameplay of this particular blockbuster (personally disliked the gameplay portion) is there a version of the blockbuster i can maybe read about or watch?Basically im trying to find the storyline without having to play the game. i'd like to go through it again without actually "playing" it so it doesn't take 6 hours, does anyone know if there's a maybe a fan novel or so with Lotus and Orchids entire storyline?

    is the market dead?

I play on Luna (Europe) for reference. I've just recently come back after some months, and I noticed that the market has had a dip, there isn't as much going on as it used to. I know therre is a market for 30b + items, but under that it just feels ppl are buying the essentials such as scrolls, traces, etc..

Would love to hear if you guys can relate or if it just maybe temporary thing?

Maining Aran so far, here's what I think, and I want you guys to add thoughts.

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 02:27 AM PST

So it's been roughly a year (including the time I took a break, I guess) in GMS Reboot. I am now grinding my main Aran to 250, and I think there are roughly about 30-40 hours left for me to spend to reach that level. Recently, I reached 31k clean.

I am going to say a lot about this class as someone who liked the class enough to begin maining it but at the same time felt some negative thoughts and tried to main a new character twice. In case I get my thoughts down there all messed up, I am going to start by saying that I like playing Aran so far, I feel mobbing is at average level (Warrior class rates can be less satisfactory but definitely far from being bad), bossing is fine overall but sometimes can be inconsistent. The character has fine visual effects.

Needless to say, these are my personal thoughts on Aran and there are more experienced endgame players out there.

Here are strengths of Aran in my point of view:

    1) Arguably one of the strongest classes when unfunded

I can confidently say that very few people will elect to not recommend Aran to a new player who wants to get into this game. MP consumption can be annoying, but other than that, I think Aran has almost everything to satisfy people who are new to this game or want to start working on the legion. From 1-4th job skills, Aran gets 190 Attack (if including "Regained Memory" that can be obtained from Arkairum preq) so they have little trouble mobbing as long as you don't go to overly high-level fields. To add on to that, the link skill that boosts exp obtained from combo orb, drain, high attack speed, and good mobility make early game mobbing relatively painless compared to other classes when players lack a budget to fund and legion to give some extra stats.

I feel this is quite a noteworthy draw of playing Aran in Reboot when funding is going to be challenging early, especially with Byebye Kanna being a dangerous strategy to utilize now.

    2) Comfortable early bossing

Aforementioned nutty base Attack Power, around 70-78% IED from common attacks, along with minor things like Snow Charge (10% damage + 10% damage to statused foes) combine to make Aran's DPS much stronger than what players may see from stat window. A lot of early bosses are less mobile and thus are vulnerable to Adrenaline Rush as well, so brute forcing them is quite easy.

    3) Aforementioned strengths gather to ease early Arcane River dailies

High base damage helps mobbing, high mobility coming from Combat Step / Judgment Draw / Final Toss shine in Hungry Muto / Spirit Savior, and main attacking move hitting multiple targets give Aran a good edge in Dream Defender. This can't be ignored as players are required to constantly keep up with Arcane River dailies to make their character stronger, and I believe Aran's advantage in Arcane Dailies keep users from feeling displeased with having to do them and instead help them adapt to it quite quickly.

    4) Possesses solid utility in bossing

Command key-casted Final Blow and Maha's Carnage, Beyond the Blade, and Fenrir Crash all make Aran impossible to be knocked back (though a tiny moment between each casts make them vulnerable to knockbacks), and this is extremely handy against Magnus, Lotus, and Will. Drain helps Aran sustain health during bossing when potion most likely has cooldowns. Snow Charge can help Aran and their party members make use of Cadena and Explorer Thieves' Link Skills. Maha's Domain makes a handy healing zone, and I look forward to see a degree of its helpfulness as a future patch in GMS will make it no longer be consumed when casting Maha's Fury.

    5) Miscellaneous

    • Inner Abilities don't become a pain to deal with because it is not like Aran urgently needs Buff Duration / Cooldown Reset / Critical Rate (though the latter will be nice to have because you have to cap it anyway), so players have more freedom to choose their first line, with appropriate ones being Boss Damage, All Skills +1, and +1 Extra Target (due to how Beyond the Blade functions against less targets)
    • Nodes are simple. Out of 4th job skills, the only mandatory ones are Final Blow, Final Attack, and Beyond the Blade. In my case, I add Smash Swing, Final Toss, and Hunter's Prey, but these are niche at best.
    • Small number of buffs - everything except Maple Warrior fits in auto buffs for triple pet.
    • Legion Card effect can be helpful to squishy classes

Here are weaknesses of Aran in my point of view:

    1) Repetitiveness & Potential Wrist Pain

In terms of how much a character will cause wrist to be tired, Aran is nowhere as bad as infamous examples like Blaster, but they are destined to spam Final Blow + Beyond the Blade from 4th job, and so on. This combo requires you to press same thing multiple times, so it is reasonable for players to get tired of doing it (even after 5th job / during burst in bossing). In worse cases, players who adapt to this later than others may suffer wrist getting tired as they have to mob longer to level and farm.

    2) Mobbing gradually becomes less impressive

By the time when just about most classes can one-shot mobs, Aran will probably have to spend more effort to have mediocre mobbing ability, and the aforementioned issue with the character wearing out the wrist can become relevant here. Skills have quite small-sized hitboxes, so Aran may have to suffer low rates in large maps. Fortunately, Maha's Carnage helps this to a large extent, and one-shotting with Erda Shower isn't overly difficult as long as you keep Swing Studies buff active (though one-shotting with True Arachinid Reflection's legs is considerably harder). Overall, as I said in the beginning, mobbing remains decent, but compared to the effort you put in, and the impression that Aran built as a strong leveling character early on, I don't think mobbing feels very rewarding with Aran as you go down deeper into Arcane River.

    3) Your DPS depends more on boss's behavior than your control

Aran's burst during bind is mediocre at best, and this means you have to fully engage against the boss to get the most out of Aran's high theoretical DPM coming from Adrenaline Rush duration. This becomes harder and harder against stronger bosses. Damien's single teleport may consume a fraction of your Adrenaline Rush's duration, Lucid's "Powerful Attack" may put you into worse situation, and Will's invulnerability during segment test will make you teary if that overlaps with Adrenaline Rush. Other classes have same issues with losing DPS against harder bosses, but the stuff I mentioned pains Aran more as other classes can at least wait for their important skills to come back while Aran has to engage and stack combos to 1K or wait for Adrenaline Burst (that has 240 sec cooldown). As much as Aran is reliant on Adrenaline Rush to be an effective DPS in bossing parties, this less flexible system with combos and Adrenaline Rush can become a nuisance.

To overcome this shortcoming, you have to worry about continuing to DPS effectively outside burst (DPSing regularly matters as Aran has high IED and Maha's Carnage has high damage), remaining alive with all the bullshit going on in the screen, and communicating with the party at the same time. This is the reason why I say Aran is "easy to learn & hard to master", whether people agree or not.

    4) Could-be-better survivability

Two of Aran's iframes are Hunter's Prey and the final stack of Freud's Wisdom. The former requires you to be in Adrenaline Rush, and holding it down longer for longer iframe means you lose that much amount of damage, and the latter isn't a reliable iframe in practice. Drain helps sustaining, but 1% per hit becomes less notable as bosses go more crazy with instakilling / spamming multiple attacks at the same time. Aran's panic button also takes pressing Adrenaline Burst + (down / left or right / up / attack) key input, which can be messed up because this is panic button you have to use for the quickest iframe, and messing up in the middle can mean dying to boss + wasting Adrenaline Burst that has 4 min cd.

This issue becomes less and less relevant as your personal mastery with Aran will continue to develop and you can take advantage of Aran's mobility and convert it to survivability, however.

    5) Two-handed weapon looks very ugly with cash item on and you are forced to farm Rose from imps to change that

    ----

I'm glad that I got to keep playing Aran and got to think about it to this scale. I will probably continue playing Aran after hitting 250 while working on legion at the same time...

If you tried Aran, please let me know what you think about my opinion. Should you think something is wrong, I will be happy to hear the reason so that both me and the potential Aran players who read this will be informed. Thanks.

Does anyone grind in big maps in groups ?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 09:40 AM PST

i know this is an old topic kinda but am i the only who misses being in a big ass map and maybe 2-4 people are chilling in it grinding and chatting.

With the big aoe skills we all have now is there even big enough maps outside of some obvious ones that could productively (at least not super slow) have 2-4 people grinding ?

    Good Elysium guilds for bossing

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 04:47 PM PST

Wondering if there are any good bossing guilds that are semi active. I have not played in a few months and since then my guild has died. I am a 225 NL and have a 3 mil range so I can do my part during CRA, but I also need some carries for lomien so I'd need assistance there. I can carry junior players through hellux if that is still a thing. Any recommendations

    Cubing noob pls help

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 11:56 AM PST

Hi, ok so I recently bought the Tenebris Ring and I have zero knowledge about cubing stuff so I used some random ones I have in my inventory on the ring. I got DEF +6% Recover 24 MP every 4 secs and INT +6%. I'm playing kanna and the ATT increase was +8400 to +13760. I bought a couple cubes from the coin shop and I don't want to waste them so I was wondering if I should just reroll or keep it, and if you have any tips I'd be happy to take some, thank you and sorry if my question was dumb!

    Nodestones

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 07:19 AM PST

I am a mercedes (level 211) playing on normal server.

With the starforce event i just SF my earrings, belt and weapon to 17 stars, all the other things are 12 (gloves 17 would be better).

Finaly got a 2m range buffed and i am pretty happy about it.

My question: My nodes kinda suck hard. Only got the nodes when dropped or weekly quest. Is it worth to buy nodestones on auction house to raise the passive trio's? To make bossing and mobbing easier? Or are there other things i should do?

    Hyperstats:

9 in dmg, 10 in boss, 10 in crit dmg.

Working on legion, its not that high but i am working on it.
