[Reboot] Nexon has to give a firm stance on Byebye Kanna

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 06:31 PM PST

They could simply tell us what they think about suicide Kanna. If they are fine with it, stop making GM police randomly ban users who actually dedicate their time to farm meso. If they are not fine with it, a few users may grief over it but at least we are sure if the strategy is valid or not and thus can choose to explore new methods for new users to farm...

...instead of vaguely saying "abusing it too much gets you banned", leaving users vulnerable to GM police messing up or simply too feared to access the farming method that considerably lowers entry barrier of Reboot.

Also botting is prevalent around bye-bye station to no one's surprise.

Shouldn't it at least default to match what you picked during character creation, then allow separate changes later (as always) ?

    Ultrawide monitor vs Maplestory

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 07:58 PM PST

So, recently I got my hands on an ultrawide monitor (2560 x 1080). How does maple work on it? Any one got any shade of a clue?

Most games on menus and stuff don't exactly work perfecly with ultrawide, with dark bars on both sides, or everything being pushed all the way to the left or right, for example.

In game, if maple uses all my screen, I'd be able to see many more maps open up completely, and that'd be GREAT for training!

I'm downloading it right now, I hope it works. If it doesn't, anyone knows if there's a program to make custom resolutions for programs? (and if this is a bannable offense?)

Found an unfinished ‘story’ I was writing based on Rex PQ years ago.

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 09:47 AM PST

Don't know if this is against the sub's rules.

Thought I'd share this piece of writing somewhere people might appreciate it. I don't recall posting it elsewhere. I never finished it though!

This was written about 2013 so the skills might be super outdated. Vids is a Soul Master/Dawn Warrior and DarkLink is a I/L Mage!

Vids shivered and drew her cloak around her more tightly. It was FREEZING cold in El Nath. She sighed as her eyes surveyed her surroundings. This is certainly not what she was prepared for. The sky was getting dark and the wind began to blow harder still. Not a soul was in sight. Probably all hiding from the storm, she thought, perhaps I should seek shelter too. Upon spying the first wooden cottage, she pushed open the door and tread in.

The tavern-like room was filled with other adventurers like her. All looked weary and tired from their travels and the cold. Vids shrugged off her traveling cloak to proudly display her two-handed sword in its sheath on her back. It was her most prized possession, given to her by a close friend. Immersed in thoughts about the whereabouts of her friend, Animal, she slumped onto one of the squashy armchairs by the fireplace. The trip down Orbis tower had not been a particularly eventful one. As she sat, watching the roaring fire in the grate, a voice spoke out from behind her.

    'Fancy meeting you here.'

Alarmed, Vids jumped off her armchair and drew her sword pointing it at the shadowy figure. It laughed.

    "Relax! It's just me."

Recognizing the voice, Vids relaxed her guard, "Nice to see you again Duckie!"

A tall ice-lightning Mage stepped out of the light, chuckling.

"What brings you here on a day like this?" he asked, looking curiously at her bulging knapsack.

"Delivering stuff. Nothing much. how about you? Whatcha doing?" replied Vids, changing the topic abruptly.

Without a word, DarkLink pulled another armchair next to Vids.

"I'm on a self-assigned mission. Here, take these." he murmured, dropping someone into her outstretched palm.

Vids felt a surge of power and strength from the glowing little objects in her hand.

'What are they?' she gasped in wonderment.

'Rex's earrings. The goblins in El Nath are rumored to have a whole stash of them hidden away in the Ice Ravines.' he whispered, a grin spreading across his face.

Unsure of what to say, Vids attempted to take a swig of reindeer milk from her canteen but it had frozen solid.

DarkLink gently prised the canteen from her fingers and hung it on a hook by the fireplace to thaw.

    'Thanks.'

'So.... Would you like to come exploring with me?'

DarkLink studied her facial expression intently. Uncomfortable with his unwavering gaze, Vids turned to face the fire.

She watched the flickering flames thoughtfully. This was not her original plan, not what she had left Victoria Island to do. However, a pair of earrings like those would be quite useful.

Turning back to face DarkLink, she smiled.

    'Sure.'

Little did the two of them know, someone was eavesdropping on their conversation in the shadows.

Night had fallen quickly over El Nath. The fire had extinguished, leaving behind a few embers among the ashes. DarkLink and Vids were still talking about their adventures and their lives. The tavern emptied as adventurers and traders trudged up to their warm beds.

'... Then my friend accidentally stepped on the Jaira's tail and it pounced on him!'

Vids laughed. It had been a long time since she had not felt awkward in a conversation.

DarkLink checked the clock on the wall and gave a start, "Hey! It's nearly 2am, we'd better get to bed."

"Mmph... You go. I've got some stuff to take care off," Vids responded.

"Try not to sleep too late!" he said as he teleported up the stairs.

Vids got up and walked over to the window. The storm was raging outside the mullions and windows Snowflakes flitted across the windows in the moonlight, casting little shadows on the wooden floor.

As Vids sat, she thought about the events that had transpired in the past months. Her green eyes eerily reflected light from the moon, giving her a ghostly appearance.

    'Human!'

Vids whirled around, hand ready to grab her sword for the second time that night. However, all she saw was a little green creature sneering, beckoning her to come closer with a gnarled green finger.

'What do you want?' she said, 'You shouldn't sneak up on people like that. Especially not at this hour!''

The goblin grinned wickedly, rubbing its hands together.

'I know what you seek, human. If you help me, I will help you steal Rex's Earrings.'

'Begone you foul creature! I am not a thief!' Vids cried, brandishing her sword.

The goblin snickered. It was not a pleasant sight. A feeling of unease washed over Vids.

'You will be back to find me. You will be back....' the goblin murmured as he backed into the shadows.

When the sound of his footsteps died away, Vids hopped of her seat and soul-rushed up to get room. She did not like the thought of being left alone with that goblin. Something about him didn't feel right, she thought while locking the door.

The bed was comfortable but she tossed and turned for an hour or so before finally entering her world of dreams.

The next morning dawned, cold and bright over the town of El Nath.

'AHHHHHH.... What a great sleep.' DarkLink yawned as he stretched and got out of bed.

Today was going to be an absolutely awesome day.

First of all, he had met an old friend the night before. Secondly, they would be adventuring together for the next few days. Thirdly, the possibility of procuring more of "Rex's Earrings" was seeming less and less impossible. They would start their exploration of the Ice Ravines after breakfast.

"GOOD MORNING," DarkLink announced as he bounded down the stairs. He spotted Vids in a corner of the room and headed for the seat opposite her.

The ever-present canteen of reindeer milk sat on the table in front of her.

"So, what's our plan?" she said, questioningly.

"Hmmm... Well, first we should get you some proper armor to keep out the cold," he replied, "You're not dressed warmly enough for this weather!"

She scowled and said, "Well, you don't have the proper armor too!"

    DarkLink smiled.

"I'm an Ice and Lightning Mage. The cold doesn't affect me as much."

    "Riiight...."

"C'mon! I'll get you a new cloak!" he said cheerfully. Grabbing her hand, he attempted to pull Vids to her feet. She snatched her hand away but got to her feet.

"Uhmm.... Shall we get a move on it, then?" DarkLink said awkwardly, gesturing towards the doorway.

He and Vids then walked out of the bar, into the cold.

"I heard Scadur makes the finest cloaks out of Yeti's fur. We should go look for him....."

They sloshed through the snow covered grounds, looking for Scadur.

As they walked, DarkLink heard a faint chattering. He turned to face Vids.

    "Do you hear tha-"

"N-n-no... W-what are you t-t-talking about?" she answered, holding her cloak tightly around her.

    "Vids! You're shivering!"

    "K-k-kstch! I'm f-fi-!"

A sneeze cut her off in mid sentence.

"We're going back and you are to stay there and keep warm. I'll be back for you." he said.

Vids did not seem to be listening but held on to his arm so he could teleport back to the tavern.

"Hi, I'd like to buy a Yeti fur cloak for my friend."

"Aye, that'd be 1 million mesos." said Scadur, eyes glinting.

DarkLink fished out the money from his robes.

"You're positive it'll give her cold resistance?" he said, pausing the transaction.

"You have my word for it." Scadur grunted solemnly.

Scadur watched as DarkLink carefully stowed the cloak into his bag.

"If ye don't mind me askin'... Where are ya headed anyways?" he asked curiously.

DarkLink lowered his voice to a whisper, "The Ice Ravines, know anything about them?"

    Scadur shook his head.

"Goblin territory. I won't go messin' around there if I were you. Stories of travelers gettin' lost are not uncommon," he said, "Fools. Only goblins can navigate those parts. Yer as good as dead without one guidin' the way."

"I see.... Thanks for the tip?" said DarkLink uncertainly.

Scadur waved his hand dismissively and returned to his tent, leaving DarkLink to ponder about this new found information.

    -click-

With the cape securely fastened around her neck, Vid felt a magical warmth engulf her.

"That's much better, thanks," She said, feeling the soft furry material, "How muc-"

"Don't mention it," DarkLink insisted and changed the subject, "By the way, I got some new information on the ravines."

Vids listened as he recounted what Scadur had said about goblins. A memory swam to the surface of her mind. She told DarkLink the strange incident that occurred late last night.

"A goblin spoke to you?" DarkLink asked, his interest piqued.

    Vids hesitated.

"Yes... I suppose it was a goblin. He had green skin, a skull cap and a dirty loincloth around his waist," She closed her eyes and tried to recall what or had said.

"He told me that he'd help us if we helped him. He said I'll be back to find him. I suppose this is what he meant...."

She heard the screech of a chair dragging on the ground. Vids opened her eyes. DarkLink was already on his feet.

"Well, what are we waiting for?" he said, proffering a hand to Vids.

She ignored his gesture and rose to her feet slowly.

"I think it was headed in that direction when I yelled at it." Vids said, pointing down a rickety flight of stairs.

    "Let's go!"

The stairs creaked as the stepped down cautiously.

"Sounds like we're torturing mice." Vids muttered darkly. The stairway was pitch black. Without the light from the Soul that she had conjured, they would have probably ended in a heap at the foot of the stairs.

"So this goblin, did he mention his name?" DarkLink inquired.

"He didn't say much. I got mad at him for calling me a thief so I told him to go away," Vids whispered.

"I just don't like being called names." she added.

They reached the foot of the staircase. The darkness was only broken by the 'Soul' summoned by Vids. A little ball of fire, it hovered 5 feet above the ground, bathing everything in a dim orange glow.

The cellar seemed to be devoid of any forms of life. However, four doors lined the walls in a linear fashion. One of them was slightly ajar.

DarkLink cocked his head towards the opened door. Vids nodded in response and they began to make their way towards it as silent as wraiths.

Peering over the edge of the door, they heard a curious muttering. The speaker obviously had no inkling that they were being watched.

"It will happen soon... Heheheh... I will s- I mean, WE will succeed....."

An unpleasant cackle worthy of Malady came forth, Vids recognized it in an instant.

"That's him. It's that goblin." she whispered, trying to keep her voice as low as possible.

Suddenly the racket stopped. Scrabbling footsteps approached the doorway. DarkLink grabbed Vids and teleported out of the way as the door swung open with a tremendous bang.

'So we meet again!' the goblin said, obviously delighted , his beady eyes shifting their attention from DarkLink to Vids, both frozen in their combative positions. The summoned Soul circled it's master protectively, spitting small flames at the goblin.

    DarkLink walked forward cautiously.

    "You are....?"

"Shammos, at your service, m'lord.... And lady..." came the reply.

Vids relaxed her stance but continued to hold onto her sword.

"What can you tell us about the Ice Ravines?" DarkLink said, curiously.

The goblin grunted, "Well, I can't tell you everything... But I can show you what I can't say."

"How will you do that?" Vids said, coldly, green eyes boring into the black goblin eyes.

Shammos explained how the Ice Ravines were guarded by ancient goblin magic. This prevented unwanted travelers from entering. He, however, was able to temporarily override this magic with the use of some simple incantations.

"... If and only if we make a visit to the Goblin Altar." He stated plainly.

DarkLink shot a glance at Vids. Her expression was unfathomable. This could be their only chance to obtain Rex Earrings. Anyway, what could possibly go wrong?

'We accept your terms!' DarkLink exclaimed.

"Wait! What are yo-" Vids began to say but was cut off abruptly by Shammos.

"We set out at dusk. Now, goodbye."

And with that, he slammed the door to his room. DarkLink and Vids heard his raucous laughter emanating from the room.

They turned to face each other, each with the same look of confusion as the other.

DarkLink shrugged and started to head back up the stairs.

Possible alternatives I wish nexon would consider for early game mesos in GMS reboot.

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 09:14 AM PST

Byebye station (and Malaysia at whole) has been a point of contention between players, other players, and developers since it became the standard back in 2015 / 2016. Despite this, and its many controversial changes, it is the single longest living part of the GMS Reboot meso farming meta-game. Even now, despite being bannable, people continue to utilize (or abuse) it as it is, currently, the only viable option for the early game (without events such as tera burning that allow you to skip the majority of the early game when utilizing the correct class). I've waited for the waters to clear and calm(er) heads to surface, and now I want to discuss something: the possibility of *introducing* new alternatives to early game meso grinding. This is something that I've rarely seen hit on in the community, and people that have talked about it seem to have a focus on buffing or utiziling already existing methods. Ursus, daily bosses, etc etc. I think that's good, but I think that options are key in a game where so few exist, and instead of looking at already established methods, I want to look at the potential of new methods. This is a discussion, and if anyone disagrees with what I'm saying, I want to talk about it. And even though I know that this will probably never even be more than glanced at by anyone at Nexon, I think it should be.

An online game needs three things to thrive: content, community, and communication. One of these is neglected, one of these is provided by an outside source, and one of these is dying. Content is king, and while it is provided by KMS, there is GMS exclusivity. I'm not promoting a desire of receiving new content as some sort of compensation for the changes on byebye; that would be droll and uninspired. But small changes to existing content could go a long, long way in helping out the average player.

Nostalgia posts are huge on this subreddit. People love to talk about, 'the good old days'. And while I personally enjoy the progression of new maple more, the community is undeniably alienated from each other with next to nothing to bring them together outside of bossing parties. While that's an entire discussion on its own, because of this, I think that party quests need to be looked at a form of bringing in meso to the early game. Previously, party quests existed to not only give players something to do together, but also to give small, relevant rewards. Drops were a large part of this, as it incentived players to come together for fat loot. Scrolls, rare capes, big xp drops, and even unique equipment like spigelmann's necklace were all shiny things to go for. Some of this was guaranteed if you won enough, but some of it was RNG -- an element that adds spice. The change that I propose would be to add meso drops (even if its so simple that its in the form of the 100k - 5m bags) to party quests at levels 1 - 200 to give players an alternative to farm mesos and a different way to train mules. I'm tired of doing the same content levels 1-200 every time i work on a new legion character. Previously, I said content is king, but variety would easily be its queen and counterpart. There's so much dead content that exists in this game that could easily be breathed back to life with just small little changes like that, and it would take the legion grind (something that most players dread) and make it tolerable if not enjoyable, while also *helping out newer players that don't have options*.

This change isn't as simple as 'communicating this issues creates new content and brings the community back together, war is a thing of the past and we'll never have to deal with problems again', and even this idea might be full of holes. That's why it's a discussion. Last night, I saw someone post a 'fishing guide', and I had thought, 'now that's a piece of content that was dead on release'. It kinda hit me, then, that content like that is the norm. We get new theme dungeons, new party quests, and new early game content *all the time* that's antiquated on release. A small change in rewards to these types of things could instantly make them relevant again, and it could easily bring players together to work on this stuff together. Balance is important, yes, I understand that this will be a point of contention, but it can be worked on. I personally don't even know how much meso it takes for a new account (or account with little building on it already) to get strong enough for the bare minimum of arcane river, because i have potential scrolls and occult cubes sitting in the bank from years of building. I'm curious what everything thinks regarding these numbers, as I think that a new character should be able to almost self fund itself (not one shotting, just not struggling) into vanishing journey. Gateing there makes more sense because of the staggered progression of dailies, weeklies, boss gear, etc etc. Less party quests exist for that part of the game, which promotes slowing down and building the account. That seems to align with Nexon's current philosophy regarding the way the game is meant to be played.

I'd like to finish on one final note. I don't know what the relationship between Nexon of Korea and Nexon of America is. I don't even know how much has to be cleared by one or the other in order for changes to go live. That's something that they wouldn't be able to share, I understand that much at least. But I do think that Reboot needs to receive more attention in GMS. Unlike Korea, Reboot is by far our largest server, and with more and more of them shutting down every day, it's probably time that Nexon of America started listening to its community more.
