So you want to fish in Maplestory, a somewhat complete guide as to why you shouldn’t. Posted: 09 Dec 2019 12:35 AM PST Introduction: So you discovered Maplestory has fishing, maybe by mistake, or you simply wanted to get rid of the quest from your lightbulb. Either way, I'm here to teach you just how fishing works. (All the following info is from GMS reboot, but still mostly applies to GMS regular servers, other regions may have different fishing systems.) First, you'll need to be level 33, the quest will be called: [Tutorial] A Start to Fishing, you can find it in the quest lightbulb. After a short (and pointless) chat with the maple admin you'll be moved to the tutorial area where Corkie will have a long winded, and pretty outdated explanation of just what you've gotten yourself into, feel free to skip reading any of it. Once you're through all that you'll be moved to Angler's Rest, be sure to talk to Corkie and accept all of his quests, you'll receive many items including: Worm (use), Fishing Material Bag (use), Fishing Chair (set-up), Spirit Bait (use), Dreamy Bait (use), and Deep Sea Bait (use). You'll now be able to teleport to Angler's Rest (30 minute cooldown) from the menu tab, clicking on "Fishing" then clicking on "Anger's Rest >". Now that you have access to the far superior Ardentmill, Corkie will have some quests for you to complete, you'll need to complete them if you want access to all the fishing holes and dailies. Talk to Nuri to teleport to any of the silly fishing holes. The quests are pretty straight forward, just move to the appropriate map, pick your favorite spot, sit in the fishing chair, and pick your bait. *NOTE* you'll need to use the area appropriate bait in order to obtain the items needed to finish the quests. (You won't always receive the quest item. Sometimes you'll catch normal fish.) Fishing is pretty simple, once you cast your bait a section will eventually appear and you'll want to move your line towards it using the arrow keys, once the fish icon is within the circle, press down. repeat the process a few times, your goal is to reach 0'0m to catch the fish. If at any point the fish reaches 99'0m, the line will snap the fish will get away, losing you your bait and fish. Part ½: Okay, so you've completed all your quests, now what? You have multiple choices, stop fishing now and never look back, or continue onwards. If you've chosen the latter, well I'm sorry to inform you, but you don't really have much else to do other than over fishing. You can also try for the fishing rankings, try and fill your stats page, or complete your rare fish collection log (more info on all later). Once you finish each area, you'll be rewarded with some special items. Part 1; Dailies and the coin shop: Now that you have access to every area (Spirit Fishin' Hole, Dreamy Fishin' Hole, and the Deep Sea Fishin' Hole), you'll be able to complete all of the daily quests for each area. Each day you'll be given free quest baits for every area, each giving you 10 bait when used. Every area has 4 daily quests, where you get various rewards along with coins, both of which can be used at the shop. All items collected can be found in the Fishing Material Bag. Spirit Fishin' Hole Quest Rewards: 4 Fishing Coins, 1 Spirit Ring, 1 Blue Essence, 1 Spirit Fish Fillet, 1 Fishing Chair Material. Dreamy Fishin' Hole Quest Rewards: 4 Fishing Coins, 1 Dreamy Pendant, 1 Pink Essence, 1 Dreamy Fish Fillet, 1 Bait Bag Expansion Coupon. Deep Sea Fishin' Hole Quest Rewards: 4 Fishing Coins, 1 Deep Sea Belt, 1 Orange Essence, 1 Cosmic Fish Scale, 1 Bug. In total you'll get 12 Fishing coins and multiple items needed to trade in for other usable items at the coin shop. Fishin' Shop: So what does all your hard work get you? Ruby runs the coin shop, here you can find all sorts of goodies. If you ever throw away your fishing chair, you can buy a new one here for 10k mesos. Section 1 Equips and Chairs: Fishing Ring: For 200 Fishing Coins, 10 Spirit Rings, and 10 Million mesos: Level 30 common Ring, +2 Att/M.Att, Part of a set, This item CANNOT get potential. Fishing Pendant: For 200 Fishing Coins, 10 Dreamy Pendants, and 10 Million mesos: Level 30 common Pendant, No stats, Part of a set, This item CANNOT get potential, Bonus Effect: -Has a Chance to add: Instant Death Effect. –Critical Rate 2%. Fishing Belt: For 400 Fishing Coins 15 Deep Sea Belts, and 100 Million mesos: Level 30 common Belt, No stats, Part of a set, This item CANNOT get potential, Bonus Effect: "Bonus drop rate when equipped. The longer you wear it the greater the effect becomes. Less than 1hr: +2 % drop rate. Less than 2hr: +4% drop rate. 2hr+: +6% drop rate. Fishing Set: (Bonuses based on equip time.) 2 Set Items Equipped: 0hr effect: Party EXP +3%, 1hr effect: Party EXP +6%, 2hr effect: Party EXP +9%. 3 Set Items Equipped: 0hr effect: EXP +3%, 1hr effect: EXP +6%, 3hr effect: EXP +9% Chairs: Each chair can be bought for 1000 Fishing Coins, 30 Fishing Chair Materials, and 100 Million Mesos. They all have the same effect: moving your fishing rods line a bit faster while fishing, along with being a sweet chair that no one else in your entire server probably has. (and the basic fishing chair for 10k mesos can be bought) Section 2 Usable Items: So, you've run out of bait because you just love fishing so much, now what do you do? Well you're in luck, because Ruby has bait for sale! For 250k mesos you can buy either Worm or Shrimp, both will give you 50 of either bait when used. For 5 Fishing Coins you buy, Spirit Bait, Dreamy Bait or Deep Sea Bait. (You'll only get 10 baits, so it's not worth it in my opinion.) For 30 Fishing Coins, and 20 of specific essence you can buy scrolls to upgrade your fishing gear. (All have a "chance" to blow up your gear if they fail, and have pretty low success chances. +1: 90%, +2: 60%, +3: 30%. +4: 15%, +5: 2%.) For 30 Fishing Coins and 1 Million mesos, you can buy Dailiy reset tickets (one for each area), using one will allow you to reset your dailies for the area specified allowing you to repeat them. (Note, you can only use a total of 5 reset tickets for any area per day.) For 50 Fishing Coins, 50 Bait Bag Expansion Coupons, and 5 Million mesos, you can buy the Bait Bag Expansion Coupon, which expands the bait bag by 4 slots upon use. (I've never bought this item, and I see no use for it.) Section 3 Consumables: So you've caught some "keepers" and are ready to cook them up huh? Well let me tell you something, you can't cook, so you'll need to ask Ruby to help you out. Spicy Fish Stew: 5 Sailfish, 5 Whitebait, 5 Salmon and 200k mesos: +10 Magic Attack for 6 hours. Smoked Herring: 5 Cutlassfish, 5 Mackerel, 5 Tuna and 200k mesos: +10 Attack for 6 hours. Delicious Grilled Carp: 10 Crucian Carp, 10 Common Carp, and 100k mesos: +10 Jump & Speed for 6 hours! [Premium] Spirit Fishin' Hole Special Dish: 1 Spirit Fish Fillet, 5 Fishing Coins, 5 Bass, and 1 million mesos: +50 Attack & Magic Attack for 1 hour. [Premium] Dreamy Fishin' Hole Special Dish: 1 Dreamy Fish Fillet, 5 Fishing Coins, 5 Eel, and 1 million mesos: +500 Weapon and Magic DEF for 1 hour. [Premium] Deep Sea Fishin' Hole Special Dish: 1 Cosmic Fish Scale, 5 Fishing Coins, 5 Halibut, and 1 million mesos: +30% Boss Attack for 1 hour. Part 2; Fishing Stats, rewards, and rankings: All right, so you've finished your fishing dailies, now what? You can fish for "keepers" or "sellers". While fishing you've probably noticed that Corkie mentioned that you sold your fish and gained either experience or mesos, this is what I call "sellers". You can find these fish in any map, and in any form of fish. "Sellers" will sell anywhere from 10 to 500 mesos, or low experience based on level. (you don't get a choice between the two.) Or you've caught a "keeper" congrats! "Keepers" are rarer than "sellers", you can find your keepers in your fishing material bag. Along with gaining materials that you can use at the coin shop, you also gain points and join that week's Fishing ranking. Fishing Rankings take place from Monday 3 A.M. UTC, to the next Monday 3 A.M. UTC. You can check your placement in the fishing menu, ranks get updated every 5 minutes. Based on your placement you'll get prizes, be sure to click "Claim Reward", to claim your reward. 1st place will earn 100 fishing coins, and 10 fishing random loot boxes (each containing a random reward from fishing dailies.) Each fish is worth a different amount of points, and seem to have different rarities, here's what I've found: Sailfish - 1 point, Whitebait - 1 point, (commons) Crucian carp - 5 points, Salmon - 5 points, Common carp - 5 points (not to be mistaken with the rare fish) (commons) Tuna - 10 points (common) Cutlassfish - 15 points, Mackerel - 15 points (uncommon) Eel - 20 points (uncommon) Halibut - 25 points (rare) Bass - 30 points (rare) ? Fish - 100 points, Rare fish - 100 points (very rare) I've noticed that using area special bait will increase the odds of finding rare and uncommon fish, while decreasing the odds of finding common fish. (Very rare fish will still be very rare), Along with earning points you'll also add 1 catch to your status page, upon catching a certain amount of fish will reward you with bait, fishing coins, mesos and exp. Your first tier will be rewarded at catching 100 of the specific fish where you'll get: 5 coins and 10 (100) spirit bait for common fish, 10 coins and 20 (200) spirit bait for uncommon fish, and 20 coins and 40 (400) spirit bait for rare fish. You'll earn 100k mesos and 1k exp for any tier 1 completion. Your second tier will be rewarded at catching 500 of the specific fish, for reasons of not being too insane, I've yet to achieve such a feet but, I've got 100 of sailfish and salmon, so I can only assume on the rest… you'll receive: 25 coins, 10 (100) dreamy bait, and 1 Fishing loot box for common fish, 30 coins, 20 (200) dreamy bait and 2 Fishing loot boxes for uncommon fish and, 40 coins, 40 (400) dreamy bait, and 4 Fishing loot boxes for rare fish. You'll earn 1 million mesos and 3k exp for any tier 2 completion. (Assumption) Your third tier will be rewarded at catching 1000 of the specific fish, you'll receive: 45 coins, 10 (100) deep sea bait, and 1 fishing ring for commons, 60 coins, 20 (200) deep sea bait, and 1 fishing pendant for uncommons, and 80 coins, 40 (400) deep sea bait, and 1 fishing belt for rare fish. You'll earn 10 million mesos and 5k exp for any tier 3 completion. Part 3; The Collection Log: So you've noticed the third tab in the Fishing Menu "Collection" here you'll find some rare fishies, and when I say rare I mean super rare. There are 10 rare fish in total, each will reward you with a different fabulous prize. Upon catching one the screen will flash and Corkie will interrupt you by saying you've landed a big one and reveal which one you've caught. To my knowledge you cannot catch multiple of the same rare fish. (? Fish are not rare fish, and do not reward you with anything but 100 points). So what do you get from catching rare fish, well info is kinda hard to find, and I have only caught 4 of them myself but… Common Carp: Master Craftsman Cube (regular servers), Mysterious Meso sack (reboot) Percula Clownfish: Meister Craftsman Cube (regular servers), Mysterious Meso sack (reboot) Halfmoon Betta: Fastidious Cat Chair (both servers) Arowana: Arowana Chair Blue Sea Slug: 100% Unique Potential Scroll (both servers) Dumbo Octopus: Fantasy Chair Footballfish: Bunny Box Chair Blue Parrotfish: ??? Apple Snail: ??? Transparent Fish: ??? Some of these rewards are clearly better than others, but the rare fish are definitely not worth trying to catch, unless you are insane. I'm very curious to learn what the last 3 rare fish reward you with, especially the Transparent Fish. But hey, if you do catch one you might just get a super rare never before seen in your entire server (maybe) chair. Part 4; The End: So you made it to the end, or skipped here, good job! I wrote all of this at 3 A.M. and I'm very tired now, and probably missed a ton of stuff, or got things wrong, so sorry about that, but I doubt you'll see a more in depth guide any time soon. I wish I knew how to play this game casual again... Posted: 08 Dec 2019 05:35 PM PST I always come back to Maple like everyone else but I always get caught up in this "got to get to end game in 1 day" mode. It's like I don't even remember the real reason for playing the game and instead of treating it as a job. Heck, nowadays I can't even enjoy leveling pre-200 unless it's burning. I've been playing on and off for many many years but these feelings just hit me today. Anyone else feel this way? [link] [comments]
I know this is old news for many, but I just discovered it now.. Posted: 08 Dec 2019 09:45 PM PST Hero classes can use Freud's wisdom in jump quests, 6 stacks giving you 30 seconds of invincibility for you to ignore all obstacles. [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Dec 2019 07:07 PM PST Refer to text above, just got to 220 but when I double click my inkwell coin, it gives the "You cannot use that coin" error. For reference, it ate my other Inkwell coin from level 210 without giving me my 200mil. Is anyone else experiencing this? [link] [comments]

Cadena Scimitar momentum cancelling question Posted: 08 Dec 2019 04:42 PM PST Ive read a bit around here about the ideal way to cancel scimitars momentum using thrash, but theres one detail that I still dont really get. (I am a 120 noob on cadena so I havent really done anything yet that would require optimal play/mechanics.) From what Ive read, ideally scim should be cancelled with thrash. My question is, does just thrash on its own, without any other follow-up cancel the momentum of scimitar? Like thrash->scim->thrash? Can you do just that while remaining stationary Because Ive tried a bunch of times and im not able to momentum cancel with thrash. I can do thrash->scim->thrash->pursuit, which keeps me stationary, but with just thrash the character still goes flying forwards. (I have also watched some optimal dps dummy videos but I find it a bit hard to follow exactly what the combo consists of.) [link] [comments]

Posted: 08 Dec 2019 02:40 PM PST So, my friend hasn't been able to play Maple lately and we're trying to figure out how to get it running again. I watched a lot of tutorials and read a lot of forums but nothing has helped so far. If anyone knows any other solves we could try we would appreciate it a lot, thank in advance. Below I will compile a list of things we've tried. -Uninstall/Reinstall Edit: We have tested and it works fine on another laptop and desktop both on the same version of Windows. Edit 2: some details below When launched with the launcher, the game security pops up, the usage slowly goes down, then it never opens. No black screen or white screen Maple tab, it never opens. When launched with steam, it's the same, however the task "Maplestory" appears in the task manager which it doesn't when using the launcher. Still crashes the same way. [link] [comments]

Issues with starting Maple (click play and nothing happens). Posted: 08 Dec 2019 12:09 PM PST Hi everyone, I've been having an issue since coming back that Maple doesn't start. Typically, if it's the first boot of the day, maple will start just fine. But, if I crash or the client randomly closes (which happens often) I find myself stuck spamming the play button which does nothing. It states that the launcher is verifying then will act as if it is loading but then the play button returns to being clickable again. I have tried many different things from killing processes tied to Maple (which typically it is not running), running things as an administrator, running from launcher versus the client itself (and vice versa) to a full restart. I feel like I'm out of options at this point. Does anyone have any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
