Auto-steal potential and how it could increase your meso rates

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 08:11 AM PST

Hi it's your friendly neighborhood Shadower here.

I was watching KMS videos late at night like usual when I noticed that KMS farmers all ran lines of auto-steal on their gloves. This piqued my interest and I did some digging around to find out if this could be utilized in GMS Reboot. What I found is pretty interesting, but also is pretty niche and might only be relevant to some of you.

Disclaimer: This information is taken from http://www.inven.co.kr/board/maple/2304/16022, and some limited testing on my part. As of now I am unable to verify to what extent auto-steal works, only that there is an increase in meso rates. If some of you would like to test out auto-steal for yourselves after reading this post, any feedback would be much appreciated.

What is Auto-Steal and how does it work?

Auto-steal is a glove potential that works very much like Shadower's steal skill, which you can use on mobs to make them drop their items without actually killing them. The kicker is that even after auto-steal procs, the mob will drop its full amount of meso after it dies, which essentially means you can generate extra meso out of nothing.

    • Auto-steal does not work with summons
      • From my limited testing on Kanna, none of the summons procced auto-steal. However, what exactly works with auto-steal and doesn't is to be determined.
    • Auto-steal works on one hit-kills
      • The potential is much more effective if you take several hits to kill each mob. However, if this causes your rates to go down then it is better to one-shot. Multi-hit killing would only apply in niche cases such as 2-shot mark/ME.
    • When auto-steal procs, it causes mobs to drop 1/2 of their base meso value
      • The caveat here is that the amount dropped by auto-steal amount is not affected by meso gear. This results in the amount being about 1/4 of the base value, and I am unsure whether or not it is affected by Wealth Coupon/Potion.
    • The number of lines on your skills do not matter
      • Whether it's a 1 line skill or a 14 line skill, the hit on the mob will proc with the same % chance.
    • Auto-steal only works once per mob
    • If you steal an item from a mob, killing the mob will never drop that item
      • In the inven post, the guy used auto-steal on drakes to get their skulls, and reported that he never got 2 skulls from the same drake.
    • Auto-steal does not increase your drop rates
      • The guy also spent a few hours throwing snail shells at drakes to get this result. Drake skulls drop at a 50% chance, and he threw 100 snail shells with 8% auto-steal at each drake. From 20 drakes, 12 of them dropped skulls, and 8 did not. When all 20 were killed afterwards, none of them dropped skulls. i.e, if a mob was not originally going to drop an item, you won't get it via auto-steal. Granted, this is a small sample size and there is actually no way to tell if it will increase the drop rate of nodestones/droplets.
    • Proccing auto-steal does not decrease the value of the regular meso drop
      • This means that regardless, auto-steal will increase your meso rates. Based on the 1/4 result from earlier, this means that each % of auto-steal will increase your overall rates by approximately 0.25% if you one shot all the time. If you two shot, each % of auto-steal will increase your rates by approximately 0.5%. Again, it is not worth going from one-shotting to two-shotting just to get more value out of auto-steal.

    How to get the Potential

Now that you know how auto-steal works, it's time to determine whether or not it's worth to get them yourself. The potential line appears on gloves at unique with 1%/2% lines, and at legendary with 3%/5%/7% lines. They are fairly common lines from my limited testing, and you can get up to 3 lines of them. However the caveat is that you can only roll these lines with MCC/Meister Cubes, not red/black cubes. This means in Reboot that the legendary potential lines will be fairly difficult to obtain, while the unique lines are actually pretty cheap. For most people, they can probably nab a glove with 2~4% auto-steal by buying MCC cubes from npc shop for a few hundred mil, and will have to save up meister cubes to get anything above 7% on a legendary glove.

    Who does this benefit?

Technically, auto-steal will benefit everyone, regardless of how much % you have. However, people who rely less on summons and people who multi-hit to farm will see far greater benefits from this potential. It is up to you to determine whether or not the cost of getting these lines is worth the small benefit they give. Personally I would just wait and throw any meister cubes I get onto a spare pair of gloves and pray to Wonki. (hyung give us balance patch pls)

That's all for now. Again, if you decide to try out using auto-steal for yourself and have any feedback, please leave it below so we can determine how good the potential actually is.

    Leveling past 150

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 03:43 AM PST

Hi guys, Kinda a rant / asking for advice.

    TLDR at the bottom.

I'm a old school maplestory player from the Beta / Wizet days who's having troubling sticking to and fully enjoying the current maplestory.

I still hop onto maplestory probably 1-2 a year with my lil bro and we relive our mapling days. However, it doesn't matter what class I pick (new or old) I always end up losing interest around level 100-150.

The game seems to be ever changing and all I really know is to grind. I'm not sure if there's something I'm missing but is there a better way to enjoy the game? It seems like all the game is about now is grinding and buying NX or if you're strong enough / high enough level, doing bosses and dailies.

Is there certain PQ's or events or things that me and my brother can do besides grinding to level up? It's hard to enjoy the game when all there is to do for us is farm one type of mob for x levels and then move on to the next map.

I don't mind spending some money to make the game more fun but I honestly don't even know where to start.

Ultimately, my questions are. Is there something I'm missing about the game? What can I do to make the game more fun and enjoyable ? Are there alternative ways to leveling up besides grinding a single mob?

I love this game. It holds really fond memories in my heart. That's the exact reason why I still come back to it annually. However, if there's anything I can do to make it even more enjoyable than I'm open to suggestions / opinions.

    Thanks.

TLDR; How can I make this game fun for myself again? Can't seem to get myself to level past 100-150 (always get bored of grinding same mobs etc)

The Nexon Dilemma is Getting Worse

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 12:38 PM PST

In 2003, Maplestory was released for public consumption after a rough patching start. With the introduction of classes and basic functions, players were able to communicate with other players all around the world, spiking interest within the MMORPG community. Through changes, in particular the Big Bang change in 2010 which implemented new class abilities and revamped class structure, along with a multitude of new maps and interaction abilities, a new player base was introduced to Maplestory, while old players quit the game they used to love.

As of 2017, Maplestory had grossed around 2.9 Billion dollars world wide, making it one of the most successful mmorpg's of all time. While the release of Maplestory 2 was not as popular as the original Maplestory game, the player base saw an dramatic hype for the release of the game. Unfortunately, the success of Maplestory was coming to an end.

Maplestory 2 died within six months of the games conception. The immediate player base dropped by 70% within two months, along with Maplestory's popularity dying post Big Bang due to incredibly unreliable bugs and server issues, along with the complete revamp of the Maplestory system, players were left confused and distraught over the change within the game. New players and old players who loved Maplestory continued to play the game, seeking the experience of childhood, along with the addictive nature of Maplestory.

Currently, Maplestory sees around ten to twenty thousand players average per month world wide (compared to destiny 2 with 200,000 average in the U.S. on Steam alone). This significant decrease of player base definitely influences Maplestory Dev's decision making with updates, along with their willingness and ability to maintain the game.

However, recently, Nexon has become more and more unreliable with their updating system, going far as to completely ignore the community and ship out products for consumption without acknowledging faults within the game which have not been fixed for years. Keep in mind, when Nexon eventually does acknowledge the problem, the majority of the time, it comes with even more bugs and coding failures which makes the game even more unreliable and buggy compared to the original bug issue (i.e. the recent Wondroid mechanical hearts event).

With the recent notification of the MVP Black and MVP Red situation, as a current MVP Diamond, I must urge Nexon to focus on other issues first. The sole reasoning behind the implementation of MVP Black and MVP Red can only be boiled down to greed of Nexon and/or individuals who already have the resourced to spend thousands into this game. The average player base will be unable to achieve MVP Black/Red due to the absurd pricing. $3,000 per three months, which equalizes to $12,000 per year to maintain a MVP status within a game is unprecedented within any other MMORPG, especially a dying one. This desperate last ditch effort to make money within this game will not influence a new player base, nor reinforce the current one. The fact that KMS, GMS, TMS, and JMS already feel outraged by this development of MVP change shows the lack of community support within this change.

Similarly, the decrease of meso rewards from chaos root abyss bosses, along with no class balance update since the KMS player who kept track of the class dps charts underlies once again the inability and lack of understanding Nexon Dev's have of the game and the community. Keep in mind that the previous kms dps chart tracking player was an Ice Lightening mage and he abused the chart by intentionally putting his class's dps lower on the chart, causing the nexon balance team to buff Ice Lightening mages, once again reiterating the ideology of Nexon using the player base modules to balance things within the game due to their lack of any sort of knowledge about Maplestory.

A plethora of class problems have yet to be addressed, while the Nexon Dev team focuses on getting rid of VIP hair/ face coupons, updating the MVP system, and editing a text problem within the King Penguin Chair.

A short list of problems are:

1.Pathfinder's deluge double cast on macro, decreasing dps within pathfinders of higher ping

    1. Thief classes being unable to pick up items within dark sight

    2. The entire hayato mobility kit pre- 200 with shinsoku cancel being literally the bread and butter for movement within the class

    3. kanna's ridiculous damage for a support class which deals more damage than dps classes

    4. phantoms fever bug which has been bugged for years

    5. Jett's are a joke (sorry jett mains)

the list goes on and on (if i wrote all the bugs and problems of each class this would be an encyclopedia)

Along with the theme of bugs, the inability of players who have reached endgame to be able to solo Hard Will and Hard lucid due to a lack of lines based on a cap of 10 bil damage. The utter frustration to be unable to complete the genesis weapon due to this block of lines has made players want to quit/ have already caused players to quit in all regions. Keep in mind these players are those whales that Nexon Dev's are trying to leech money from. Nexon is unintentionally going to lose more and more profits from not either 1. increasing the damage cap or 2. decreasing hard lucid and hard will health bars due to massive whales who would be purchasing the MVP Black and MVP Red quitting based on this block.

Nexon has grouped players within 3 sections: 1. People who spend money on the game 2. Hackers and 3. Non-hackers. However, due to the overwhelming number of hackers and botters within Maplestory, Nexon's focus and effort has been on banning players who they deem to be hacking. The recent Mechanical hearts event saw a sharp increase in ban rates of innocent players due to Nexon's own spaghetti coding which detected individuals as having been hacking even though they were simply participating within an event. In comparison, hackers and botters have become significantly adept within their craft, using programs and systems which they personally use to bypass Black Cypher (the Nexon anti-hack software which has not been updated since 2015). Nexon marginalizes players who their automatic software detects as being hackers to be hackers, without questioning the software in itself.

I spent 5 minutes on google and maplestory hacking software was everywhere. However one similar and constant software that they used was called T******* (i will not release hacking software information). This software has been used by hackers and botters since 2006. 2006... and yet Nexon corporation is either unable or unwilling to change their hack detection software to address this problem. Bera's population becomes over-inflated by botters and hackers within the servers, creating outrage within the community when these hackers and botters invade public maps. If Nexon was really as worried and cared as much as they keep stating through their public domains that they "wish to provide the best gaming experience", then updating their hacking detection software would be a massive step in the right direction to prevent hackers and botters which they claim to want to eradicate. The Malaysia update would certainly be action towards addressing botting and hacking within the Malaysia maps, however this will simply encourage hackers to shift into more populated maps and farm with a lack of regard for the public maple community. We can already see this happening with ban waves. Despite the massive ban waves, hackers are creating new accounts within a different internet proxy even if they are I.P. banned. Creating an anti-proxy software would eradicate a gargantuan amount of hackers and botters who utilizes anti-proxy. I am not stating that complete prevention of hacking is possible, I am simply implying the methods and implementations which would significantly benefit Maplestory.

If there are any other problems/ issues/ bugs that you would like to report to Nexon please comment them down below. if you wish to discuss/ debate/ agree with some of the issues I have stated above please also feel free to reply to this post. Please upvote this post so that Nexon can become aware of the communal frustration and outrage towards the methodology of Nexon currently.

I could write more about Nexon's inability to fix massive problems within the game but I am very tired from researching and typing haha. I do love this game, however I am becoming more and more inclined to quit due to the Nexon Developers, not the community. The community has seen and been through a lot and I believe for Nexon to truly revitalize this game, they need to invest more time into communicating with the community which has held on to your dying game for over a decade.

    Help with progressing

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 09:52 PM PST

I recently got back into Maplestory and I've been enjoying it so far. Almost everything feels new to me since I haven't played in years.

I'm playing on the Reboot server and my current highest level character is a 170 Dual Blade with about 200-220k range fully buffed excluding shadow meld. I'd like some guidance on what gear I should go for next, I'm currently using a full Pensalir set with some boss accessories.

Almost all of my gear is 10 stars, and I tried to get a bit of %LUK on most of my equips. Two pieces of the Pensalir gear I found had decent flames, but no potential and I wasn't sure if it was worth using potential scrolls on. I've just been doing every daily boss that I can beat to get new equips.

Here's an image of my current gear: https://i.imgur.com/QOtxHWf.png

Other than getting more accessories from Gollux, what else should I be doing right now to progress?

Ursus - lag out and die every single time. Get 3K exp per run....

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 12:36 PM PST

Decided to try Ursus for the first time today, first time the game lags out so hard by the time the screen even loads I'm dead. 3k exp and 0 mesos. Second try screen goes dim and locks up, counts as my second try. Third attempt I get in, so laggy and choppy cant do anything, try to spam potions and attack, died yet again before he killed and got nothing. Total waste of my time. Is it always like this? Just avoid Ursus? This is on a PC that runs other games just fine, have gamepass play Forza 4 often zero issues, been playing WoW classic zero issues. Yet this little game with all of its crashing and lagging cant seem to play smoothly

Nexon, we need an economy that works for us all, not just the 1%

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 07:10 PM PST

With massive starforce costs and no good ways to earn mesos for a living, the majority of maplers are left behind. The people are desperate and the solutions you offer are not adequate. Killing off bye bye and giving us a suboptimal meso dungeon?!

We need a system that works for all of us, not just the super wealthy and powerful.

My fellow citizens, join our movement and we can work together to better life for us all
