Ignore Defense from Familiars are stacked as a Single Source — It is now possible to reach 100% Ignore Defense, rendering all other sources useless.

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 09:52 PM PDT

Preface: The intention of this post is to only spread awareness of the current facts. It is not to call this out as bug. It is not claiming this is intentional. We do not know until we hear from Nexon themselves. We will need to keep an eye out if changes are made.

    Introduction to Ignore Defense

Yes, as it turns out, the Ignore Defense from Familiars stack as one single source.

Why is this important? Almost all Ignore Defense sources, except a few exceptions, are treated as a separate source, with the formula as follows:

Total Ignore DEF % for n sources of ignore DEF:

    100-[100×(1-ID1/100)×(1-ID2/100)×...×(1-IDn/100)]

    As a result,

    • The more Ignore Defense you have, the less effective additional sources become

    • A single source of a high Ignore Defense is more impactful than small sources of the same amount

    • It is impossible to reach true 100% Ignore Defense unless you have a single source of 100%

    • It is impossible to have more than 100% Ignore Defense (the formula breaks if so)

    Implications of 100% Ignore Defense

Now, this post is claiming it is now possible to reach true 100% Ignore Defense.

What does that mean for us? It means ALL other sources of Ignore Defense, after acquiring a single source of 100% Ignore Defense, are rendered useless, and will not contribute to your damage.

You will no longer need Ignore Defense from:

    • WSE

    • Legion

    • Link Skills

    • Hyper Stats

    • and all other sources that provide Ignore Defense

Proof that Ignore Defense from Familiars stack as a single source

Before we start, you need to know the following:

    • Ignore Defense in your Stat Window is always rounded up, but the formulas use your exact amount

    • Conditional Ignore Defense sources are not applied to your Stat Window

    • Ignore Defense can be viewed as a multiplier on a mob with a defined Defense, and your damage itself is a multiplier (as a result from being multiplied by all other multipliers)

    • We can find the percent change between multipliers to see the difference in damage

Introduction to the Ignore Defense Tests

We have a player with two familiars that have 40%, 30%, and 40% Ignore Defense.

The player took off Ignore Defense sources to give our test results more of an impact when comparing, and took off all passive Link Skills that would impact the variables of our tests.

They currently have 72% Ignore Defense in Stat Window with the following sources.

After summoning the familiars, the player has 100% Ignore Defense in their Stat Window.

If we were to calculate their Ignore Defense using the Familiars as separate sources, we would get:

    (1-(1-71.59/100)*(1-40/100)*(1-30/100)*(1-40/100))

    = 92.84068% Ignore Defense

Even if it is rounded up, it only reaches 93%, and not 100%.

    Test #1

We need to know for sure if this is only a visual issue, or if it is applied to your damage as well.

The player will be using their Boost Nodes, so they have an additional 20% Ignore Defense, for a total of 77.27% Ignore Defense.

If the Familiar Ignore Defense sources are separate, they would have a total Ignore Defense of:

    (1-(1-77.27/100)*(1-40/100)*(1-30/100)*(1-40/100))

    = 94.27204% Ignore Defense

We will be testing their damage against a Level 200 300% Defense Oak Dojo Dummy, and comparing their damage with and without the familiars summoned.

    Here are the results:

Before we can use these numbers, we must first find out their multiplier for their 1) current Ignore Defense, 2) if the Ignore Defense sources are separate, and 3) if the Ignore Defense sources stack.

    1. Current Ignore Defense Multiplier

    (1-(3*(1-0.7727))) = 0.3181

    2. Multiplier if sources are separate

    (1-(3*(1-0.9427204))) = 0.8281612

    3. Multiplier if sources are stacked

    (1-(3*(1-1))) = 1

Next, we need to find the percent change between both the separate and stacked multipliers against the current multiplier.

Percent change between current multiplier vs...

    • If separate, (0.8281612-0.3181)/0.3181 = 1.60346180446

    • If stacked, (1-0.3181)/0.3181 = 2.14366551399

Now we can find the percent difference between the two Battle Analysis tests, and see how the result compares to the percent difference we calculated.

Percent change between Battle Analysis tests:

    • Max Damage (1238751779-403497940)/403497940 = 2.07003247402

    • Min Damage (327154774-104218067)/104218067 = 2.13913684467

The min damage in this Battle Analysis tests were non critical hits, which should be more accurate since they do not include the critical damage variance of 1.2x ~ 1.5x.

As we can see, 2.07003247402, and especially the non critical hits, 2.13913684467, are awfully similar to the 2.14366551399 we calculated. The Ignore Defense sources must be stacked, because if they did not, we would have expected numbers closer to 1.60346180446.

    Test #2

    Let's not stop here.

Remember how we said if you have 100% Ignore Defense, all other sources of Ignore Defense will not matter? Let's test that out.

We'll be testing this player's damage, without the Familiars, against a Level 200 0% Defense Straw Dojo Dummy. Because this Dummy has no Defense, Ignore Defense does not matter.

    Here are the results.

We now need to take into account for the fact that a 300% Defense Oak Dojo Dummy has Elemental Resistance. This player has a Level 100 Insight Trait, so their Ignore Elemental Resistance multiplier is:

    1+(-0.5*(1-0.05)) = 0.525

We now need to simply multiply their damage from the Straw Dojo Dummy test by their Ignore Elemental Resistance multiplier, and compare it against the Oak Dojo Dummy test with the Familiars.

    The results are:

    • Max Damage, 2437114704 * 0.525 = 1279485219, compared to 1238751779

    • Min Damage, 632332785 * 0.525 = 331974712, compared to 327154774

Again, the results are awfully close.

What were the results supposed to be if the Familiar's Ignore Defense were separate? If this player did not have true 100% Ignore Defense, we would also have to take account for their Ignore Defense, by multiplying the Straw Dojo Dummy results by the Ignore Defense multiplier too.

    • Max Damage, 2437114704 * 0.525 * 0.8281612 = 1059620014, compared to 1238751779

    • Min Damage, 632332785 * 0.525 * 0.8281612 = 274928575, compared to 327154774

    Conclusion

With these two tests, we can confidently conclude that yes, the Ignore Defense from Familiars do stack, and it is possible to reach true 100% Ignore Defense, where once achieved, ALL other Ignore Defense sources become completely irrelevant.

Please also keep in mind that it has been confirmed that the Boss from Familiars stacks up to 120% Boss.

    FAQ

Q: Does Ignore Defense on the Familiar have to be on the same one?

A: No, from what it appears, it can be spread out across 2, or 3 familiars, or on only 1.

Q: Can you reach 100% Ignore Defense with 40, 40, and 15 Ignore Defense on Familiars?

A: No, and while it may visually appear as though you have 100% Ignore Defense in Stat Window, you do not. It is the result of it rounding up your Ignore Defense. And although all other sources of Ignore Defense will still impact your damage, they will still not be as relevant as they are now.

New hellux tips for people trying to clear

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 08:19 PM PDT

The mechanics for hellux changed a bit, but it's kind of difficult to practice when you only get one entry a day. I'll compile the important stuff so far if you're like me and are also struggling to clear. I'll bold the parts that have changed compared to old hellux

    Phase 1

    • The "breath in" attack has a shitton of area coverage. The breath attack goes all the way to the end of where gollux is facing, plus a little bit on the side where he's not facing. It's very misleading because the animation only shows a small AOE, but nexon was too lazy to change the animation of the attack and we have to deal with it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
    • As a result, classes that can move while attacking, such as wild hunter and phantoms, will have to be more careful. Other classes that used to snipe the jaw from far away like marksman have to adapt a new strategy.
    • Breath out attack has its attack range increased. (I'm not too sure the area it covers yet though)
    • Remember, purple eyes means "breathe out", pink eyes means "breath in".
    • Hands still come up and try to grab you like before
    • For most classes, it might be easier for the time being to wait for cooldowns in the heart so you don't lose lives in the process (also applies to phase 2). Skills that give invincibility such as heaven's door, final pact, and freud's wisdom could be useful to wait for the cooldown, in addition to burst skills such as spirits domain, benediction, and final cut. Do note that there is no respawn timer, but there's a chance you get cucked as you spawn if you don't have a high enough resistance link skill.

    Phase 2

    • 2nd phase has a lot more HP, so if you can, you should summon something to deal with the mobs that come towards gollux's jaw. If your class does not, but you have a lucid soul available, now would be a good time to plop it in the center of the map. Otherwise, you'll have to hop down every once in a while in order to clear the mobs. Remember, if one of the mobs reach gollux's jaw, you can no longer go retreat into the heart and wait out cooldowns.
    • There are two viable methods of completing this phase. If you have a difficult time dodging the hand, you should stay near the center and switch between the two platforms whenever the hand comes up. Otherwise, you should use the old strategy and stand at the edge of the left platform to avoid the "reverse direction" debuff.
    • You can no longer duck to dodge the hand. The hand affects the entire platform. There are a few ways to survive. Certain classes can vertical flash jump off the platform, such as demons, evans, and kanna. You can also jump down onto the platform below, but this is slightly risky. For the rest of you, your best bet is probably to teleport or flash jump onto the other platform.
    • The orange knockback attack affects the entire screen. If you're camping the left platform, you'll get knocked onto the ground.
    • The "reverse direction" debuff range remains the same. Know that it swaps the directions of your jumps too.
    • New blue eye attack? I was dead when I was observing this, but I'm not too sure what it does.

    Phase 3

    • It's basically the same as before, except with ~2x more hp. If you can clear phase 1 and 2, chances are you'll be fine for phase 3. Apart from the mobs that spawn near the jaw, there's nothing you should really worry about.

    Drops

    • Drop rate seemingly affects the equipment drop rate. However, coins will always give you a range from 20-30
    • Belt and earring of any rarity can drop. Pendants and rings must be purchased from the shop.

    Gollux Rewards

Upon clearing Gollux you will now need to attack the heart as opposed to clicking an NPC.
    Don't leave upon completion!

From what it seems the new gollux system is affected by drop rate so swap your gears, summon your spider, use HS and enjoy. I used 260% Drop + HS + Spider.

You still receive anywhere from 20-30 coins upon completion.

Seems like additional items have been added or maybe they were just so rare that nobody had obtained them previously.

    Gollux Rework

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 01:39 PM PDT

The fact that Gollux Level 1 and 2 doesn't give you coins to work for even cracked gear is absurd.

If Nexon really wanted to rework Gollux. They should have made cracked/solid gear obtained by pennies from Level 1&2 Gollux. With reinforced/superior gear obtained by Gollux Coins from levels 3/4.

How does Nexon expect new players to kill level 3 Gollux to get coins for cracked/solid gear?

This update is only problematic for players that don't have Gollux equips yet, and harshly favors those players that do have them.

For anyone having issues with cubing/potentials

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 09:16 PM PDT

The rare potentials have issues, unsure if Nexon intended for this to happen though.

HOWEVER: All potentials and potential items seem to work as long as the item potential is EPIC OR ABOVE- I tested with my arcane weapon. I had 3 rare lines to start, used an occult cube, it went to 1 line. I tried using potential stamps, and it didn't do anything despite saying it was successful. After that, I used an epic potential scroll on my weapon, the potential turned epic, and everything worked as intended. Unfortunately, the lines were not returned so I still had to use potential stamps. Luckily, the current event has cheap potential stamps.

I used red cubes, Meister cubes, and 80% potential stamps.

I did NOT use occult cubes, black cubes (didn't have any), or other stamps.

I'm certain black cubes and other stamps as well as all the items I used are safe to use provided the item potential is epic or above.

I am NOT certain about occult cubes. I did not test them so unfortunately I have no information regarding occult cubes at this point.

Edit: Someone told me that they've heard others are having trouble with epic potentials. Given everything that's happening, it's probably better to wait if possible to roll potentials on your items.

If, like me, you have expiring cubes, then the steps above will most likely help you avoid losing lines and wasting cubes.
