Is it wrong to feel discouraged?

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 08:09 PM PDT

Hello beautiful people of MapleReddit! I've come to you today with a question, which I'm hoping can lead to some useful insight on the current state of the game. To preface, this isn't a rant, or anything negative, more of an open ended discussion for some opinions.

To begin, I am a level 239 Pathfinder in GMS Reboot. Like others, I've been playing on and off for many years, and I started playing actively again at the beginning of summer due to covid. I've reached 20k stat, can comfortably do Hellux, CRA, HMag, (working on) Lomien, all of these bosses that I've never done before while also being the highest level I've ever been. Despite all of the controversy surrounding the game the past few months, I can comfortably say this is the most fun I've had over all my years of playing the game.

Now comes the interesting part. I've never paid attention to lost opportunities. Having made my characters around May/June, obviously I've missed out on many things such as potable badges, Wonderoid, and of course, familiars. Despite this, it never really bothered me that I missed out on these things, as I tried to find other ways to make up for lost opportunities.

And then the familiar system reopened. Having made my character post familiar shutdown, I played naive to what familiars could really do, with my only knowledge of them being that people were really upset about not having them, but nothing more since it was too late for me to join the party anyways. Now I'm scrolling through Reddit seeing phrases along the lines of "People who missed out on familiars should try to forget they exist" or "If you didn't get to farm familiars you're beyond f*cked" and hearing tales of how people reach insane levels of Boss Damage and IED that I didn't know were possible. And now the things that didn't bother me before suddenly make me feel really discouraged about my current progress and the things I've missed out on.

So here's my question to you all: Is it wrong to feel this way about missed opportunities? Or should I stop trying to think about what could have been and just play the way I've been playing?

Will this stop me from playing? Nah. But I can't help but feel a little sad knowing now that I've missed out on so many things.

Hope everyone is having a beautiful day/night~

The new familiar system is unfair

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 12:46 AM PDT

So basically, epic tier familiars gave unique lines and were easly obtainable from Jr Boogies, Oda Warriors and Serpants. Of course, Nexon nerfed the drop rate of all familiar to a stupidly low level. Now all familiars can drop common tier cards, and the drop rate of commons have been increased.

So if you farmed one of the 3 familiars I mentioned above in April, you got tons of epic tier cards that actually gave unique lines. If you didn't farm, well... Enjoy your common familiars.

Back in April I lost one cubed Familiar, one lost its potentials, and only one was kept. That day I submitted a ticket, and today I shockingly have all 3 back. Thank you Nexon!

Your Boogies with Unique Lines still live

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 04:18 PM PDT

If you registered epic familiars with Unique lines, they still have them

You didn't farm boogies/Oda? Well screw you. Sincerely, Nexon

    Commerci Badge Tip

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 07:47 PM PDT

The commerci is one of the "easy" badges to acquire as you do not need to kill any field bosses. However the 2 blood pirates familiars are only available during the quest line

Blood Pirate Swabbies: drop rate is really high; I got 8 cards in the ~3 quests

Blood Pirate Lookout: this is much harder, u need to leave map and reenter to reset the quest during the "red tide" quest. IMPORTANT, you must not kill every mob, otherwise the quest will auto complete. YOU NEED TO LEAVE MAP BEFORE KILLING ALL THE MOBS

Good luck on your 10 badge grind

Even if you use it at level 11, you will level from 149 to 150. Just use it at level 10.

Thanks nexon, we were all begging for this change.

    New Familiar Meta on Reboot

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 10:08 AM PDT

So after looking through the latest Patch Notes and previous datamined info and what JMS got, this is what I'm seeing about where Reboot stands with Familiars after the patch:

Commons will be the go-to Familiar tier.

I'm pretty sure most people already have a feeling this will be the case, but look at the following facts.

    1. The drop rate of Common Familiars without any %Drop is around 0.25%.

This is based on kaedemina's observations of getting 15 cards in 10 minutes with +100% Drop on a Kanna. Boosting spawn enables Kanna to get around 300 kills/minute. This means he was getting a drop every 200 kills - but because he had extra %Drop, the base rate would really be closer to 1/400 kills.

This may look like a pretty bad number.

This is still immensely better than the drop rate for Epic Familiars, which no mention of improvement has been made towards.

Going by the Dual Blade who farmed his 1 Epic Serpent in 80 minutes on +200% extra drop and Fury Totem, the base drop rate for Epics is 1 in 72,000, or 1/24000 on 3x drop. Even being generous and assuming he was a little unlucky, the rates are still not likely to be higher than 1 in 60k, or 1/20k on 3x drop.

    2. You will need on average to farm only 67 Common Familiars to acquire a given Common line you are looking for.

......Wait, what, "only"? Doesn't that seems like a pretty bad number?

    Unfortunately, no.

According to data on the possible Familiar Potential lines in GMS there are 67 Common Potential lines and 19 "Normal". This the smallest pool of possible Potential lines among every tier except for Legendary, which cannot be unlocked on Reboot. Compare this to Rare, with 102 possible lines or Epic, with 129 possible lines or Unique, with 150 possible lines.

So assuming that the second line is always going to be lower tier (if Nexon says the chances of it being same-tier is "low", it is probably very, very low to the point of being negligible) and that all Common lines have the same chance of being rolled (which granted, may not be true, there is chance that certain lines may be harder to roll, Nexon has a history of doing this, even for their paid gacha) you would need 67 pulls to find the one line you are looking for.

This is comparatively better to Rare or Epic, which needs nearly double the expected number of pulls before you'll get what you are looking for.

Meanwhile farming Potential above Rare is simply not realistic. Even just getting Rare will be extremely tedious.

There are 102 Rare lines, so using the same assumptions as with farming Commons, you will need to go through 102 Rares on average to find a single Rare line you are looking for.

At 50 Commons to fuse a Rare familiar, you will need 5100 Common cards to fuse 102 Rares.

Using the estimated droprate from the previous section, with no %Drop, you need to kill 20,000 mobs just to farm 50 Common Familiars (or slightly over an hour of Kanna farming at 300 kills/min) for one single Rare. This number comes down if you have more %Drop. On 3x (+200%) Drop, you will be farming for a bit more than 20 minutes and need around 6700 kills for 50 Commons.

    This gets you ONE Rare.

To farm 5100 Common cards for 102 Rares, you will need to kill around 670,000 mobs while on 3x Drop. That's over half a million mobs. Over 37 hours of farming Commons at 300 kills/minute.

Admittedly, this number will come down a bit as you will be getting Rares themselves as you farm. Assuming the drop rate of Rares is about twice as good as Epics - around 1 in 10,000 while on 3x Drop - you'll only need enough Commons to fuse 2/3 of your 102 Rares, you'll get the rest to drop naturally in the time you spend farming the Commons. So more likely around 24 hours of farming on Totem/Kishin.

Farming Epics is out of the question entirely. You will need over 100 hours of farming before you reach the expected number of pulls to get the one single Epic line you want, because the pool of Epic lines is 129 large.

Assuming the very generous estimate from the previous section of Epic Familiars having a 1 in 20,000 Drop Rate, you will still need to farm over 2.5 million mobs to find 129 Epic cards. That's over 130 hours of farming at 300 kill/min. You might shave a few hours off that time fusing every single one of the Commons and Rares you get along the way, but it will be still be well over 100 hours of farming. Since it takes 24 hours just to get 100 Rares (2 Epics), all the Commons and Rares you find in 100 hours of farming will only add up to about 8 -10 Epics (assuming you don't fail any fuses from Rare to Epic) or around the corresponding hours worth of farming Epics themselves.

    3. Rare lines are not substantially better than Common.

If you take a look at the list of possible Potential lines in the previous section, you will see there is a bunch of overlap between the possible lines in each tier. Rare and Common share a number of lines.

In particular, Rare does not have anything better than the same 15% IED line that Common does. It does not have any %Boss.

It has a combined 20% Item/Meso Drop line that is worse than the individual 30% lines on Common. It does also have bigger individual 50% lines, but shares the pool with the same 30% lines as Common. Along with a bunch more junk lines like increasing Speed/Jump/DEF of nearby allies and % chance to restore flat 20 HP/MP or inflict status effects.

It does have lines worth 1% more Main Stat and ATT and 4% more Crit Rate and you do get a chance of rolling a good Common line alongside a good Rare line if you're lucky.

......Is this worth 24 hours or more of farming?

    No. No, because...

    4. Familiar Booster Packs are a better use of spares than fusing Rares or Epics.

You need to extract 200 Commons for enough points to buy a single Pack. Each pack gives you not only a 20% chance of getting an Epic Familiar or a guaranteed Rare, but also gives out Familiars from monsters that don't exist or from bosses that are impractical to farm for Familiars that will be necessary for completing Badge Sets.

You will likely need these to hit 10 Badges and unlock your third Familiar slot. There are only 7 sets that do not require boss Familiars or contain non-existent monsters: Starter, Snowflake, Oppressor, Rebel, Mineral, Lion and Commerci. You will either need to get lucky with bosses or pull from Packs to complete the last 3.

That third slot isn't just extra %IED or %Drop or %Regen, but extends the time for which Familiars can be summoned due to how having the gauge depletion depends on the sum of Familiar stats. As such, it is worth far more than a few Rares.

...But wait. You can only buy 1 Booster Pack a day, I hear you say. What are you going to do with the extra 1000 Commons you have left?

Well, it's a good thing you can transfer Familiar Cards through storage. Farm them, transfer a stack to extract to your mules, buy the pack on them, open and transfer the contents back to whoever needs the cards. I don't think it is physically possible to farm more than 3600 or so Commons in 24 hours, even if you were a robot farming non-stop.

So as long as you have at least 18 mules, you should always have more Boosters Packs to buy.

    Anybody have any thoughts?

Whoever didn't get their Oda Familiars will have to forget Familiars exist in Reboot.

I am one of those that grabbed broken familiars in April and I'll be honest, I feel stupid advantage over others that didn't play back then. Pottable badges compared to damage that bugged familiar potentials did to playerbase is disgusting. Feels like MSEAs SF event - be there or miss out on broken stuff.

Hello! Just wanted to hear players' opinions on DS vs Adele in mobbing, and also late to end-game bossing.

I like both but am not sure which character to put my time and resources in, so any input/strengths & weaknesses to help me decide would be helpful! ^_^

    Meso Drop Rate on Familiars

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 10:19 PM PDT

Is there a point in meso drop rate lines on familiars? It doesn't seem like it affects mesos obtained, so it just seems like it affects how often a mob will drop mesos.

    SW Katara help?

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 01:00 AM PDT

Hi i never had an above 17 star equip yet (think mid-late gamepeople aim for 21?)and since this sunny Sunday is upgraded on 5/10/15 stars are 100% I was considering trying to do it to my Japanese tsukuyomi Katara so I can transpose to sw Katara. I was also considering this because if the Katara booms it is waaay cheaper to replace versus the SW Katara which is like 700 mil in AH (regular servers). I was wondering if this is what most people do to get their sw Katara to 21 stars?
