    Encouraged New Player

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 06:23 PM PDT

I'm a new Reboot player, I don't have a pottable badge, but that's OK because I can get superior gollux set in a reasonable time, scratch that, but I can always farm familiars because I hear the %boss is nice, I'll just get a big spider to boost my droprate, that's gone too? Maybe I'll make a byebye farmer to get some mesos to gear my equips for %drop. I better cube during DMT to save meso. I know, I'll make an Arkanna, I'll get a good head start by farming nodestones in vanishing journey, mesos then, with the great rates allowed by Kishin. I look forward to playing such a great game made by this compassionate company. See you around.

Don't let the ridiculous implementation of the familiar system completely overshadow the fact that we haven't heard a peep from Nexon regarding the failed compensation DMT after nearly a week.

Well I think I’m done with this game

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 01:20 PM PDT

After missing the ability to get pottable badges, I was okay with it because it was just one items worth of potential I was missing. But now with this new familiar system, it's just a big fuck you to new players since you are literally missing out on 120 ied/100 boss which is actually such a fuck ton of stats.

From the failed dmt with no response to this, I have learned nexon is probably the most incompetent game company in the world which is a shame since maple is such a unique game. Idk why they try to constantly demotivate new players and widen the power gap.

I understand there is no pvp or anything but still, having people do twice your damage because they were able to farm something for two days back in April is beyond retarded. Especially cause you are probably never going to achieve those stats anymore with the current familiar system.

Tons of people be complaining about not farming enough epic familiars.

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 08:25 PM PDT

I'm here with my one epic that gives 1% stats and a good reason to quit the game within days of returning.

The rates of getting a good potential is so garbage that having hundreds isn't even enough for many people.

And then it hits you. Many people have hundreds to 30k of these cards(yes there are people with that many). Each of which took a few seconds to farm and will now take you days to obtain from mobs that don't give you any exp or anything else you're looking for.

Oh and the stat gap is worth more than 8k legion.

    Fuck you too nexon.

Why does it take so long for a DMT solution? Cuz Nexon is working hard OptImIZiNg everything.

My thoughts on Familiars in GMS Reboot

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 02:27 PM PDT

I'll start off with what I'm guessing to be a controversial statement. I personally think that the current release of familiars is pretty good. Had this been the only familiar rework released, I don't think anyone would complain.

It fixed many of the core issues that lied with the initial rework.

    1. People no longer farm 3-4 low level maps for a few hours and get 80+ boss/ied.
    2. Familiar are more diverse, you can run whatever monster you want.
    3. Acquiring 10 badges is realistic and is something you can do on multiple characters. I actually have almost no issues with the way badges are currently implemented. 9/10 badges are "easy" to get, and you just need to put in a bit of extra effort for 1-2 boss cards that enable you to unlock all familiar slots. Min-maxers can grind out booster packs for getting better badges.
    4. Power gain from the first couple hours of familiars is more in line with other methods of progression. You can still get 3 lines of 15% ied in a feasible time frame.

Most of the issues that people have with familiars come from the fact that people who played during the few day period of the initial familiar revamp are at a ridiculous advantage over those who didn't play. I definitely understand the frustration of those who see others around them jump past them in dmg simply because they grinded 1-2 hours 3 months ago.

I think a simple fix for this would be allow reboot to buy red familiar cards with mesos. It will solve many of the frustrations that players are experiencing at the current moment.

    1. One of the biggest sources of frustration lies in the fact that it is near impossible to attain 30-40% boss lines on familiars any more. To players without those epic cards, it feels like they will be at a permanent disadvantage to those who have the familiars. Allowing people to realistically reroll familiar lines with mesos will fix this issue.
    2. This will only promote familiar diversity since people can now farm extra hard for cool looking familiars, then reroll the lines.
    3. This will prevent people from farming endlessly in low level maps, a philosophy that nexons seems to be trying to push with the removal of singapore and nerf of bye bye.
    4. You appease people with existing epic familiars since their precious boogies won't be deleted. Also gives them an option to get better cards down the line.

In short, red familiar cards will make both player bases happy. Furthermore, the addition of red familiar cards is a healthy game mechanic that diversify familiar choice.

Lastly, I would like to address the issue about how they want create normal server exclusives. I personally don't think the ability to realistically reroll such a powerful tool is something you should keep as an exclusive. If we look at additional stats, inner ability, potentials (the 3 major things that can be rerolled), all have reroll options that can be bought with mesos in reboot. There is no reason to exclude familiar lines from this.

Instead, I think it would be better to add an exclusive option to normal servers. Something like black familiar card that has higher double prime chance and the ability to choose before/after.

So I pretty much get to do half as much damage as people who played during old familiars???

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 10:29 AM PDT

Hi i'm a player who didn't play during the last familiar update and i've played hundreds of hours in the last 3 months grinding and progressing on Reboot

Then today I find out most of my guild mates who played during old familiars and were similar strength to me ~20k stat now just suddenly do 2x damage to bosses because of familiars they had before

I'd be fine with this if it took them a long time for them to get these familiars but the fact that i've read you could easily farm epic potential familiars and people stockpiled 100's or 1000's of them in a few days is absolute bullshit to me

So basically because they got to abuse an old system they got permanent 2x boss damage in a couple of days and now it's going to take me possibly 100s of hours and multiple months to get similar potentials and catch up if not longer

I've seen people compare this to potable badges but when I think about it it's not even close even if you had 39% stat badge, 120% boss damage or ied is like having a 4th wse item with 3 prime lines and don't forget that people also have familiars that give them pretty much max drop rate for free where as people without have to spend billions cubing for drop gear without even hitting the cap

What is even the point in playing the game when things like new Hellux seemed to be balanced around familiars bonus stats?

Sure people will say they cleared black mage without Familiars but my problem is there seems to be no reasonable way to even progress in familiars for a new player and they seem about as obtainable as a full arcane set

Any thoughts on this? I feel super discouraged and sad about a game I really enjoy

An alternate opinion to the guardian angel event (MSEA)

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 11:01 PM PDT

First of all, I'm using a throwaway account because of my friends know my main account and they have been pretty upset about this event even though I pointed out to them why it isn't that bad.

What is the guardian angel event?

For those who are unaware, for the past week Maplesea has had an event where by completing several easy quests, you gain several buffs which include scrolling %, Tier upgrade, destruction chance decrease during starforcing and most importantly, increasing starforce chance.

    -----------------------------------------------

    Why are people upset?

While it was written on the website that there was an increase in success rates for the above, nobody really realised how broken this event was till it was released. Everything was doubled & when it was first released, every single social media within the playerbase went crazy, people were getting their items from 17* to 22* in 400m, suddenly everyone had 22* equips.

So now you might be thinking, only the biggest & fattest of whales have gotten their gear up to 22* so the amount of complains shouldn't be too great because everyone benefits right? Wrong, there were so many people getting upset because suddenly they have lost large amounts of money.

This is where Maplesea is unique, because in MSEA RMT is very prevalent. In other servers sure RMT exists but not to the extend in MSEA. Its widely known that more than 1/2 the playerbase is involved in RMT, whether it be buying mesos or buying equipment.

So when everyone has 22* items, the value of said items dropped significantly, meaning that the whales who were trying to sell items suddenly found that the value of these items have dropped by more than 50% of their prices.

Simultaneously meso prices exploded, it went from $11SGD/Billion to $40 SGD/Billion.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

The struggles of majority of the playerbase

The few available options to increasing your damage past 5th are,

    1. Gear
    2. Potential
    3. Arcane symbols
    4. Starforce
    5. Tricore nodes (which I won't be going into because it takes time and luck)
    6. legion
    7. Links (which I assume that everyone has done)

    ---------------------------------------------------

    1. Well first of all, lets look at the gear thats considered realistically end game for most MSEA players, full epic potential, unique W/S/E (not there yet) with several event rings and replace the spirit pendent with a CHT or Machinator pendent. The only realistic thing that I have left to upgrade is my eye accessory from the aqua letter eye to a black bean mark, my earrings to Meister earrings & getting a Meister ring to replace my silver blossom.

Comparing to GMS, Maplesea has very very very little easily accessible BiS items, where Gollux & Sweetwater items are considered BiS and easily obtainable over time and both can easily be sold for a good chunk of mesos as well as having more stars for starforcing and set bonuses. The familiar & totem system & Codex (not sure if this is still in the game) all give big big boosts.

    2. The next thing to realise is that in Maplesea the only way to get cubes without buying them in the cash shop are

    1. Legion shop gives 3 master craftsman (yellow) cubes every week
    2. Opening treasure boxes from Ebosses
    3. 14th & 28th Daily gifts
    4. Events

The mileage shop in Maplesea is a joke, have a look at what you can buy using only mileage. 1 & 2. The pendent slot lasts for 7 days, hyper telerock for a day & only 5 buff freezers in a month. There's also a water of life which I have already bought out.

You could literally play an entire year and still not get unique on all your items,

    3. Arcane symbols are timegated behind dailies and towards higher levels, you start struggling with the amount of meso required to level up symbols because you are unable to kill more bosses for mesos.

    4. So that leaves us with starforcing and starforcing is notorious for being a meso sink with no guarantee of returns.

What this all adds up to is the struggle of the common playerbase, the majority of players are at CRA level with some of the older players at Lotus & Damien. Don't forget that when you are unable to cube your weapon, there is a severe lack in IED & Boss damage for most characters.

MSEA has some of the smallest populations in any server, to elaborate, it is actually possible to find a map at CLP with burning at prime time 8pm in the evening. Due to the lack of playerbase, most things in MSEA go for a premium. A clean absolab armor goes for more than 300m (before the recent pandora box event that destroyed the market), master craftsman (yellow) cubes go for about 40m & meister (purple) cubes for about 80m. These items are what the players on the lower end of the spectrum need rather than the whales & asking someone to fork out over a billion to get all their absolab equips is downright disheartening.

And due to the lack of equipment most players struggle with doing weekly bosses to get the required mesos to upgrade their equipment so it becomes a downwards spiral.

Yes I know Kobe recently did a very very good series of getting a completely clean account up to CRA level in a month but that does not apply to MSEA because of the poor economy. in KMS a 9% Str & 10 WA addpot goes for about 60m. In MSEA, a 10WA att pot with trash potential goes for > 300m.

Not to mention that stuff like Zakum weapons actually go for a good chunk of money over there while here nobody even bothers picking up the Zakum weapons.

    Why is this event necessary?

Well first of all, this event revitalised the playerbase. Majority of people in my guild / buddylist are suddenly playing a lot more than they usually would to grind out mesos for this event. More players is always a good thing for the game.

Secondly, what this does is give a boost to the playerbase so now & in the future you can expect that prices of gear will start dropping drastically when more and more players are able to start doing CRA, Lotus & Damien. This helps to bring & keep more new players in as now they won't be scared off by the ridiculous demands for gear progression. For the whales, it means getting towards higher end bosses that they were previously unable to clear and more trickle down benefits such as arcane weapons & armor getting cheaper for other players.

Thirdly, it makes people more invested in playing this game in the future because now they have gear to start doing the fun stuff which is bossing, whereas in the past most players give up because they can't reach the next boss, this event now gives a very good opportunity to reach that level.

    Differing opinions about this event

There have been so many opinions that the whales are the ones who can benefit from this event and also that the whales are the ones losing out because their items no longer have value. To this I would like to raise a few counter points.

Only the whales can benefit from this event.

Thats just plain false, this event benefits everyone, from those who have 10* only to those who have 17* gear. For the fattest of whales of have already 22* their items, this is a perfect opportunity to get more items up to 22* either for mules or for selling in the future.

F2P players / low spenders do not have enough mesos to spend

Its true that F2P players & low spenders will definitely have less to work with than the whales which is rightfully so because they are the ones throwing money into this game and there should be a benefit for them. If you want to play a game where money does not give you benefits, go play league, dota or CS or pay for a monthly subscription in some other MMO, a F2P MMO business strategy is to catch the whales who make the game profitable for the company to continue operating.

At the same time, its not like F2P are out of luck, daily bosses give you about 12m~, Ursus gives another 18m. Thats already 30m a day. If you have multiple characters that can do daily bosses, thats about 40+m a day.

If you don't have another character, thats fine. Do Black bean on your mules. It takes about 3 minutes per lvl 140 mule and gives about 3m.

Take that money and buy gear which is going for dirt cheap right now, a clean Fafnir weapon is going for about 50m where it used to be 200m just 2 months ago. A clean absolab glove costs 140m while it used to go for 800m 2 months ago.

Now take this & go do the weekly bosses, CRA if you have sufficient IED is not too difficult if you know the mechanics. The problem is that most players are used to being brain-dead and hitting the boss like its a straw dummy without considering the mechanics. Kobe's is able to solo CRA & HMag with about 9.6k stat. Yes he has lots of buffs which isn't realistic to get in MSEA due to the lack of buff freezers but getting more than 9.6k stat is not something that is impossible within this event.

These are all very big gains that you can get and cut short your progression by many months. Before complaining about the lack of opportunities have you tried looking for them in the first place? If you are unable to spend about an hour or 2 a day playing then you don't deserve to get mesos

Whales are losing out in this event because overnight their equipment has lost all value

First of all, this is not a permanent change but rather a temporary event, after the event ends, starforcing will go back to usual meaning that their equipment price will go up again. While the price may not go back up to its original value, this is made up by the fact that now with the ease of starforcing whales suddenly have 3-4 times the number of equips that they had in the past to sell.

Secondly, whales are the ones who have spare meso to spend, they are the ones who can make full use of this event to get more gear up to 22* or to create additional gear for selling. This event also saves them hundreds if not thousands of dollars trying to get their arcane equipment up to 22* and that's not even factoring in the event blowing up

Thirdly, remember what I said about RMT earlier? These whales are making a killing selling mesos which they have on hand. The price of mesos more than tripled overnight and there are a few whales that I know who have made thousands of dollars because they bought mesos before the price exploded.

Fourth, due to the increase in range said whales are now able to get to the next level of bosses which provides more opportunity for making money. A Dunkel ring is being sold for 2k SGD right now, though that will surely drop in the future it is still a very valuable source of income for many people.

The real losers of the event

Are those who spent their mesos during the 5/10/15 Sunday 3 days before this event & those who have already quit the game and are looking to sell off any existing equipment they have.

For the first group, I have 0 sympathy for them, the event notes have already been released since 1st July 2020 and there were already rumors going around of the guardian angel event. For those who were ignorant and wasted their mesos in this event then its entirely their fault, they have nobody to blame but themselves for being so foolish.

As for the 2nd group, these are the people that I sympathize with the most, they won't be around to enjoy the benefits that others whales are enjoying and have seen their equipment lose its value but then again, as the game progresses so too do equipment get outdated, players who quit when Cygnus equips were the BiS have also found out that when CRA was released, their equipments lost their value overnight too

    Closing thoughts

While some people have jokingly wondered if Maplesea was preparing to close down and was setting up this event as a final hurrah, I think that in reality it isn't that far off. Maplesea has been losing players over the years, the entire maplesea combined together has less than thee population of one Korean world and considering the amount of resources required to keep up the server, along with many people who are hired to do the conversion of the patches from KMS and to introduce Maplesea only content it might not be worth it for the company. You can see over the years that maplesea has slowly been regressing and failing to keep up to date with certain stuff, the forums are dead and have been dead for years, certain links on the website are not working, ibox is dead and nobody ever replies and lastly the servers have been shit for months which to me is a sign that the servers are struggling with all the added content but have not been upgraded.

While I don't think that Maplesea is going to close down anytime soon, if this event fails to pull back more players then I could definitely see Maplesea closing down eventually.

3 familiars is actually viable now

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 01:18 PM PDT

Just a heads-up, the drop rate increase on common familiars is actually significant. Getting 10 badges is very doable now. Some are harder than others, I can recommend at least the lion castle (1% dmg) and mineral (3% ied) badges. With relatively high drop rate and no kish I'm getting 1 monster every 2-3 minutes.

My condolences to anyone who spent 5 hours on the snowflake badge in April, it takes <10 minutes now.

Familar system revamp ($$$$$) for reboot players

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 06:20 AM PDT

    Relatively stable patch update

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 12:43 PM PDT

Crazy how much more enjoyable the game is when maintenance ends on time and everything works relatively smoothly. Small appreciation in hopes of nexon na making this a more common trend.

    Edit:

By "everything working relatively smoothly", I mainly mean the system is working as nexon intended. For example, this iteration of familiars there has been no issues of rollbacks and major issues with dc, compared to the shitshow in april. The lines are also fixed to be correct. Familiars that were impossible to obtain before are now corrected. Nothing else in the game that was working before seems to be broken. In short, the game and familiar system is playable. It should be something thats expected from a game, yes, but just doesn't seem to happen as often as it should with nexon.

Whether the current familiar system is balanced, fair for new players, or is a good system at all in terms of progression and other aspects is another topic entirely and not my point.

    Advise on familiar badges.

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 07:36 PM PDT

For badges such as the Mushroom Kingdom and the Riena Strait ones, are we able to fight the bosses from those theme dungeons multiple times? I've never done them.

Also, what badges do you recommend farming? I have 6 badges right now that I found fairly easy to obtain:

    -Starter.

    -Oppressor.

    -Snowflake.

    -Lion.

    -Mineral.

    -Rebel.

I know that Commerci is also recommended because it doesn't require any field bosses.

    Please advise, thank you!

A realistic view on familiars (NON REBOOT)

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 06:57 PM PDT

While the people who have benefitted from familiar release months ago, I still think there's time for the less unfortunate to still somewhat take advantage of what's left.

    Familiar new players should:

Buy around 2-3 hundred oda or boogie familiar cards from the AH before the quantity diminishes. I honestly think it will rise in price indefinitely because there is no way of getting epic familiars regularly unless nexon implements change in the familiar drop system.

Rank up your jr. boogie or oda familiar on a trash stat familiar. Keep whatever boss/ied 30s you are bound to get to use for the time being. Honestly, don't expect to get any good lines when your odas rank up. It's a 40% chance to rank up as well so just keep tanking.

Once you have 3 unique stat oda/boogies, your best bet is to use the 5 red familiar cards distributed to go for a lucky rank up or good stats on your uniques. Don't worry as unless your luck is phenomenal, you probably won't get anything from those 5 but it's worth a try.

Afterwards, your best bet is to save up maple points and reset your unique oda/boogies and hope for a decent line. This is all while unlocking 10 badges to fill in your 3 slots.

I know it's tough, and a big money sink even now for those epic familiars, but we paid the price in a way. We had lots of time before the oda map got nerfed and while you could say we didn't know what was gonna happen to the familiars, the ones who invested time into that paid off.

The price of odas went from 400-500k each before the familiar patch to 2.4mil in bera. I would suggest getting in your 3 unique familiars and hold onto them for red card sales and the like.
