[Reboot] Takai's Ultimate progression guide for new players (Until level 200)

    Posted: 16 Aug 2020 03:44 PM PDT

    Hey everyone!

So I'm a new Maple player (have been playing for around a month), and one of the things I felt difficult about this game as a new player is understanding the early progression - which items to use, how to get better damage range and which quests and bosses I should do and when. This guide is meant to help new players get to level 200 with decent damage range, and to give the new players some goals they can work for while leveling! This guide wouldn't be full of information about everything since it will be way too long (this guide will be long), so I will try to leave links to other guides along the way.

This guide is gonna be sorted by levels so it will be easier to follow while progressing in the game, so lets begin:

    Pre Level 100:

Boss Unlock: (Level 90) Normal / Chaos Zakum -Don't do it yet, wait for level 100.

Boss Pre-quest: (Level 90) Normal / Hard Magnus "To Pantheon (NPC: Beldar)" -
A must do pre-quest since hard and normal Magnus will have a Best In Slot (BIS) item. You can do it either at level 90 while leveling which will be a little hard but with good exp, or later on. but you'll have to do it. It's worth noting that you can do the easy boss without running the pre-quest.

Quest: (level 90) Silent Crusade Part 1 '[Silent Crusade] A Cry for Help' -
Boss killing quest line which gives you a nice ring at the end. Also a pre-quest for a boss.

    Quest: (Level 95) Afterlands -
A quite complex quest but gives decent exp if it's done pre-level 100. Quite an important quest for new players since it gives 3 totems which otherwise are hard to get. Make sure to do it with a [Guide] since it's really complex.

    Level 100:

    Star Forcing:
Level 100 is a great time to start star forcing your gear because it will give you a great boost of damage, you'll also train in star force map, and you can transfer the stars to future gear (10 levels up). Generally, You'd like to star force a gear with epic potential, and if it's not possible then star force the item with the highest +dmg with rare potential. If you get an item called "Occult cube" try to reroll your items potential until you get +3% main stat (The potential will transfer together with the star force, don't be afraid to use your occult cubes).

    Boss Unlock: Ursus -
Don't do it yet, wait for level 120.

    Boss: Normal Zakum -
Start killing normal Zakum daily. it will give you occult cubes and 2 items from the boss set: Condensed Power Crystal + Aquatic Letter Eye Accessory. If you get them with potential then make sure to star-force them, and use occult cube to get the items to +3% main stat as well.

Boss Pre-quest: '[Root Abyss] An Urgent Summons (NPC: Neinhart)' -
A really quick pre-quest to unlock 4 must do bosses.

    Level 105:

Quest: Silent Crusade Part 2 '[Silent Crusade] Dark Energy Rising' -Boss killing quest line which gives you a nice ring at the end. Also a pre-quest for a boss.

    Level 115:

Boss Pre-quest + unlock: Papulatus '[Papulatus] The Light of Chaos (NPC: Ghosthunter Bob)' -
A must do if you want to get BIS face. also the mobs from the quests give great exp untill around level 140. As for the boss itself make sure to watch a YouTube guide since he's quiet complex.

    Boss Unlock: Easy Magnus -
You'll probably be too weak to beat him, wait until you have around 50k-80k damage range and then do him daily, good source for occult cubes. Also drops 2 boss set items: Crystal Ventus Badge (BIS), Royal Black Metal Shoulder.

    Boss Pre-quest: Von-Leon '[Lion King's Castle] Desolate Castle' -
Quite a long pre-quest with a lot of item picking. Unlocks a mehh boss (not mandatory if you're planning on getting carried at CRA. But, if you're planning on solo'ing can actually give quite good gear) the quest-line should be able to give you a decent ring 'Ifia's Ring'.

    Daily Unlock: Maple Tour -
You can access the Maple tour from the dimensional mirror. You can run the maple tour twice every day, and for each run you can gain up to 27m that you can collect at the end of each week. (which means up to around 350m a week).Make sure to do it daily, your main meso farm other then daily Ursus.

    Level 120:

Boss Unlock: Easy Horntail '[Horntail] Moira's Whereabouts' -
Must do boss for new players. Gives 4 different boss set items: Dea Sidus Earrings, Silver Blossom Ring, Horntail Pendant, Chaos Horntail Pendant. Do it on daily bases.

    Boss Ursus -
You can now damage Ursus. start doing him daily - 3 times a day. He will give you around 27m per kill, it will be your main mesos income for now. Make sure to do it during double meso time which starts at 1200 UTC every day.

    Boss Unlock: Normal Hilla -
Drops 1 pocket item from the boss set "Stone of Eternal Life", Also a great source of occult cubes. Make sure to run daily. Also worth knowing: To unlock the pocket item you need level 30 charm. The fastest way to get it is to keep an eye on the events and check if they sell "Trait boost potion" - this potion can boost your charm right up to level 30.

    Boss Unlock: Normal Ranmaru -
Doesn't drop any good item, but a good source of occult cubes. Run daily as long as you need the cubes.

    Boss Unlock: Easy Von-Leon -
If you did the pre-quest. His loot is great for solo'ing, but not needed if you're planning on getting carried. Anyway you can add him to dailies if you lack occult cubes.

Boss Pre-quest: Lotus, 'Black Heaven' -
You unlock the boss only at level 190, so you can take your time with this pre-quest. It's also really long with a lot of "cut-scenes" so make sure to run a chapter when-ever you can.

Quest: Silent Crusade Part 3 '[Silent Crusade] Special Delivery' -
Boss killing quest line which gives you a nice ring at the end. Also a pre-quest for a boss.

    Level 125:

Bosses Pre-quest + unlock: Root Abyss '[Root Abyss] An Urgent Summons (NPC: Neinhart)' -
Unlocks 4 bosses: Queen, Pierre, Von Bon, Vellum. All 4 of them are a must on a daily bases, because once you do each of them 10 times, you will unlock the Chaos mode for each which will give you the best gear you can use for a while which is usually called CRA gear (Chaos Root Abyss gear). If you are a new player, and you want to solo the bosses, it will probably take you 40 more levels to be able to solo them all.

But, right now is a good time to join a guild. Guilds usually like helping new players and will gladly carry you on your daily clears - both the 10 normal difficulty and the chaos difficulty. So if you wanna unlock the gear as fast as possible, join a guild and ask for help. Otherwise you should know it will take you some time.

    Level 130:

    Boss Unlock: Normal Horntail -
Better drops and exp, run normal instead of easy if you can beat him.

    Boss Unlock: Normal Von-Leon -
Better drops and exp, run normal instead of easy if you can beat him - You can get good flamed equips if you aren't planning on getting carried in CRA (it will give a better set then pensalir). If you will get carried you can skip this boss.

    Level 135:

    Boss Unlock: Chaos Horntail -
Better drops and exp, run chaos instead of normal if you can beat him.

Boss Pre-Quest: Damien, 'Heroes of Maple, Act 4' -
It's a must since he have mid-end game gear, but the boss only unlocks at level 190 and you'll probably won't have the range to beat him right away, so you can take your time with this pre-quest.

    Level 140:

    Item set:
It's a good time to stop for a moment and talk about your item set. At this point you want to have a full set of Pensalir gear all with +11 Star Force (it's not worth getting it any higher) and all with rare / epic potential with at-least +3% main stat. Only the weapon should have %Att instead. It's also worth noting that you should keep 2 Utgard (Pensalir) weapons, since you'll transfer 1 into Sweet-water weapon at level 150, and transfer to other into CRA weapon once you get it.
Also, it's a decent time to ask, are you planning on solo'ing? or is it possible to get carried?
In case you're getting carried - your gear is good to go.
But, in case you plan on solo'ing it might be better farming Von-Leon to get decent flame gear (%All Stat, and +Att / +M. Att).

Daily Quest Unlock: Yu-Garden 'Stop! Inspection! (NPC: Zhen Long)' -
A quest-line which gives you probably the most important dailies for a new player. Yu-Garden's dailies gives you coins that you can use to buy '50% Epic Potential Scrolls'. POT scrolls are your only way to give potential to some items (if you can't transfer the potential from another items 10 levels down). The best items to use pot scrolls on first will be your secondary weapon and your emblem since you won't change them, and you can reroll them to get +% att (which will give you the highest damage boost possible).

Daily Quest Unlock: Commerci '[Commerci] Neinhart's Call (NPC: Neinhart)' -
A quest-line which will give you very important daily quest which is called "Commerci Trade Voyages". Commerci will give you 3 BIS items: Sweetwater Monocle, Sweetwater Earrings, Sweetwater Tattoo. It will also give you Sweetwater weapon - which is a great upgrade for the pensalir weapon! (even if you lose the set bonus). If you have an hard time understanding what to do I highly recommend watching a YouTube guide.

Boss Pre-quest: Pink Bean 'Path to the Past (NPC: Temple Keeper)' -
A really long pre-quest with around 30 quests inside. But, the boss gives a BIS item. Also, while doing the pre-quest make sure to pick up any mask you see.

Quest: Silent Crusade Part 4 '[Silent Crusade] An Emergency Summons' -
Boss killing quest line which gives you a nice ring at the end. Also a pre-quest for a boss.

Boss Pre-quest + Unlock: Arkarium '[Arkarium] A Crack in Time' -
You most complete Silent Crusade's quest first. Can drop 'Dominator Pendant' Which is probably the best pendant until you can get until superior Gollux pendant which is super late-game. add to daily clears if you can kill him.

Quest + Boss Pre-quest: Hieizan Temple and Princess No '[Hieizan Temple] Investigating Hieizan' -
Probably 1 of the most important quests you can do, gives you 3 really strong items with a great set effect: Ring - 'Kanna's Treasure', Belt - 'Ayame's Treasure' and Shoulder - 'Hayato's Treasure'. While also being a pre-quest for princess No which gives BIS secondary weapon. The quests unlocks at level 140 but you'll need to be around level 175 to actually beat the final boss of the quest - and you can't get party help.

    Level 150:

    Boss Unlock: Hard Von-Leon -
You can get good flamed equips if you aren't planning on getting carried in CRA (it will give a better set then pensalir). If you will get carried you can skip this boss.

    Level 155:

    Boss Unlock: Normal Magnus -
Probably too strong for you level, but worth doing when possible (daily).

    Boss Unlock: Normal Papulatus -
Probably too strong for you level, but worth doing when possible untill you get the item 'Papulatus Mark'.

    Level 160:

Boss Pre-quest + unlock: Easy Cygnus '[Required] Chief Alex (NPC: Chief Alex)' -
Can give you empress set which is really nice for a while, but once you get CRA set (Chaos Root Abyss) then CRA will be better. Also a weekly boss.

    Boss Unlock: Pink Bean -
Require's a pre-quest (level 140), gives a BIS pocket item 'Pink Holy Cup', also a belt from boss set 'Golden Clover Belt'.

    Boss Unlock: Princess No -
Require's a pre-quest (level 140), a must do boss when possible, drops BIS secondary weapon.

    Level 170:

    Boss Unlock: Normal Cygnus -
Can give you empress set which is really nice for a while, but once you get CRA set (Chaos Root Abyss) then CRA will be better. Also a weekly boss.

Boss Unlock: Chaos Pink Bean -
gives a BIS pocket item 'Pink Holy Cup', also a belt from boss set 'Golden Clover Belt'. Better drop rates and loot then the normal version

    Boss Unlock: Hard Hilla -
Super late-game boss thanks to her cage mechanic, don't even try for now.

    Level 175:

    Boss Unlock: Hard Magnus -
Amazing rewards, do as much as possible, even ask Guild-mates to carry you if possible - otherwise it will take you a while to solo. If you get Tyrant cloak then use it (No stars / 1 star is better then pensalir cape).

    Level 180:

Reminder: Try running Hieizan Temple quest again. You should be strong enough to solo it. just bring enough pots.

Boss Unlock: Chaos Root Abyss -
You also had to clear the normal Root Abyss 10 times for each boss. Try joining CRA carry runs in your guild if possible. CRA gear is a great damage boost to pensalir + sweetwater / empress set.

    Boss Unlock: Hard Ranmaru -
Great loot - Cubes and flames wise, Also your range should be high enough to run him. worth adding him to daily boss clears.

    Boss Unlock: Gollux -
One of the most important bosses for late-game. It can give you great late-game sets, and also for early game it can give you cracked and solid gollux ring which can be an upgrade for some other rings you have.

    Level 190:

    Boss Unlock: Damien -
Require's a prequest (level 135), a must do boss once you get high enough dmg range.

    Boss Unlock: Lotus -
Require's a prequest (level 120), a must do boss once you get high enough dmg range.

    Ending:

That's it for the leveling process. Every quest, pre-quest, boss and item you should get while leveling your character to level 200.As someone leveling by no way you need to do everything written above, but if you do follow up on the dailies, get the boss and quest items, star force all your items to +11 and cube all your items to atleast +3% main stat, Once you reach level 200 you should have at the very least 800k dmg, and you should be way on your way into the mid game! :)

General 'to know' for new players:

Hyper Teleport Rock - An item available in the Reboot's cash-shop. You can buy a teleport rock for a week for 25m, and the teleport rock lets you teleport to any map you want (almost) by double clicking on it in the world map.

Reward Points - For each boss you kill, you get rewards points which you can then use them to buy certain items at the cash shop such as cubes, revive pet potion, and 'Frenzy Totem'. Don't be afraid to use those points since they reset every month. Buying a 'Frezy Totem' can increase the mobs spawn by a lot, and help you level a lot faster if you're not sure what to buy (it will be usable for only 2 hours once activated).

Red And Black Cubes - You can buy 'better occult cubes' at the cash-shop for mesos. Generally Red cubes are great to buy up until unique rarity, and then black cubes are a lot better for legendary (higher tier up chance and also they let you decide if you want to keep the old potential or the new one). It's usually best to get the emblem and the secondary weapon to legendary first with +% att.

Maple Relay - Maple relay is something that usually comes with events and it gives a lot of good items and cash items usually, so it's worth activating it as fast as possible. In order to active the maple relay you need to either: Get 150 star force, Complete 'Black Haven', or Be a Bronze IV MVP (buy NX cash). I would rush the maple relay as soon as possible.

Events - Always keep an eye on active events. A lot of the times you can get items you'll probably need such as 'Trait Boost Potion', Rings, and extra goodies. So always see what the events are giving out.

Flames - Something I haven't touched during the guide at all is flames. In short flames are extra stats you get with some gear (appears as green + in the gear stats). unlike star force, the flames does not transfer when you transfer the stats, each gear have his own flame (if any). usually in early game if you have a spare flame, then try using it on items to either get +% all stat, or +att / m. att.

Leafre, Henesys and Eldelstein Store - Make sure to check those stores! They got 50% potential stamps (Add's a line of potential to any item that got potential but less then 3 lines), they also sell shurikans and bullets for the classes that need them.

Professions - In a city called Ardentmill at level 35 you can unlock professions. Make sure to unlock all of them. Once you do you'll be able to farm mysterious veins/herbs, heartstone and gold flowers, make sure to do so since it will help you in the long run!

    Helpful Links:

[Reboot] Recommended range for all bosses - Great to understand more or less when you should do each boss

In-Depth Reboot Gear Guide - explains about all the gear in-depth and progression during and past the early game.

How do you guys think of skill animations lately?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 01:09 AM PDT

As much as I appreciate Nexon's effort in making various appealing, stunning visuals of skills that befit concepts of their well designed characters, there are times where I felt guilty of applying transparency settings over them.

This is because I felt like, "what's the point of the visual if I don't see them?" But again in the ARPG meta nowadays, even applying 70% transparency setting could risk me failing Chaos Von Bon (because his motion is so minimal and he's small) on new characters without aid of speakers. It was to an extent that I sometimes slide the transparency setting all the way to the left.

Still, like, I really love Blaze Wizard's V skills, as much as I love Pathfinder's darkness Archery skills but I notice how a lot of them completely blocked out objects / boss motions. I sometimes wonder "how do you guys even see it?"

It's not a complain thread. In fact nearly all new skills today have certain refined details (which is why I felt guilty doing transparency over them because some details are just lost even at slightest transparency). There are times I only notice "oh so that's how Adele's sword actually looks in game." "Oh there's actually a tiny swish before Ifrit Fury is casted" when I watch someone else's video.

tl;dr: how do you guys think of the skill animations and transparency? How do you guys do it? I do 0-30% all the time but It would feel like I have not seen / understood my favorite character or have enjoyed the design of the characters thorough enough.

    D/C during Damien

I keep D/Cing every time I attempt Damien. I cleared Damien last week but have been D/Cing every day this week. It hasn't happened for any other boss. I tried using different computers, not using any skills, and relogging. Has this happened to anyone else?

KMS and GMS have different drop rate formula

    Posted: 16 Aug 2020 05:05 AM PDT

To follow up with my previous post from yesterday, I've been wanting to test out whether our drop rate, similar to KMS, is being capped at 200% excluding base (with 100% internal-cap from consumables). Hence, I have recreated a section of the test performed around 1.5 years ago by one of our fellow KMS players.

The test is mainly conducted by hunting "Thunder" from "Knight Stronghold: Hollowed Ground", and determining the drop rate based on acquired "Thunder Stone". Decent Holy Symbol and Wealth Acquisition Potion have not been used at all for the examples shown below.

Summary from KMS test (which has been subsequently confirmed by KMS dev team on 28th Feb 2019 to be the official drop rate formula):

    <test 1>

    • Item drop rate 2% (There was no way to exclude the 2% Seruf effect on the farm)
    • Number of monsters caught - 528
    • Number of stones obtained - 57
    • Drop Rate-Approx. 10.79%

We can infer that the base drop rate will be around 10%.

    <test 2>

    • Item drop rate 102% (100% from 5 main potentials)
    • Number of monsters caught - 531
    • Number of stones obtained - 117
    • Drop Rate-Approx. 22.03%

Similar to the expected drop rate.

    <test 3>

    • Item drop rate 212% (210% from 10 main potentials and 2 bonus potential)
    • Number of monsters caught - 422
    • Number of stones obtained - 128
    • Drop Rate-Approx. 30.33%

It's a little less than the expected drop rate, but it's similar.

    <test 4>

    • Item drop rate 297% (295% from 14 main potentials and 5 bonus potentials)
    • Number of monsters caught - 445
    • Number of stones obtained - 130
    • Drop Rate-Approx. 29.21%

Even though the potential drop rate has increased significantly, there is no difference in the dropped stones.

My own test (all showdown performed with 'mark' off for maximum consistency):

    <test a>

    • Item drop rate 10% (Showdown)
    • Number of monsters caught - 500
    • Number of stones obtained - 49
    • Drop Rate-Approx. 9.80%

Roughly consistent with KMS base drop rate

    <test b>

    • Item drop rate 240% (180% from 9 main potentials, 10% from Showdown, 50% from Legion's Luck)
    • Number of monsters caught - 500
    • Number of stones obtained - 171
    • Drop Rate-Approx. 34.20%

Inconsistent with KMS test as 50% legion luck should only contribute at maximum 20% to my drop rate before hitting the cap

    <test c>

    • Item drop rate 290% (180% from 9 main potentials, 10% from Showdown, 100% from Large drop familiar)
    • Number of monsters caught - 501
    • Number of stones obtained - 210
    • Drop Rate-Approx. 41.92%

It's slightly higher than the expected drop rate, but the drop rates have been applied as if there's no consumable-cap on it.

    <test d>

    • Item drop rate 340% (180% from 9 main potentials, 10% from Showdown, 100% from Large drop familiar, 50% from Legion's Luck)
    • Number of monsters caught - 500
    • Number of stones obtained - 238
    • Drop Rate-Approx. 47.50%

Here comes the weird part, the acquired stones seem to indicate that familiar drop buff DOES stack with legion coupon.

Noting that the results might be skewed due to the limited sample size, my concluded theory would be as below:

Theory 1 - I'm just being lucky, to the point where all the results just happened to be in line with my different scenarios

Theory 2 - Familiar drop rate buff lies within the "applied without any limit" category, hence raising GMS drop rate cap to 300% excluding base. However, coupled with the explanation provided by v200 official patch notes, this does not explain results from test b

Theory 3 - Contrary to Strategywiki info and v200 patch note, there is simply no drop rate cap at all for GMS, regardless of whether it's 100% internal cap from consumables, or 200% total cap excluding base (can't really test the latter part as I do not have more than 9 lines of drop potential, and the higher drops could simply due to uncapped stacked buff from consumables). GMS patch note team could've just directly translated the patch notes from KMS, and Stratergywiki simply copied information from it.

What do you guys think? Appreciate if you guys have done similar test too and willing to share the results, otherwise happy to discuss :)

    PIC problem

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 02:08 AM PDT

I used to play MapleStory YEARS ago. I don't even remember how many years ago. I've just decided I'd like the nostalgia hit and downloaded the game. Logged in and went to make my first character. It's asking for my Old PIC. Which I do not have?? And then asking me to enter a new one twice, but then telling me it's the wrong one.

I've tried going onto the nexon website on multiple different browsers now and pressing reset but it says I do not have a a game character or password has not been set up on this account, which is true. Whenever I press the "chat with us" button literally nothing happens and when I try and submit a ticket for the issue it asks as a required field for a character name I've made in the game lol.

    Help please.

Edit: I tried the European server and it worked. Why won't it let me join the North American one? There seems to be barely anyone playing on the EU server.

    5th job skills trio

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 01:22 AM PDT

Hi all. I'm a 5th job paladin, and I wanna know if when I open a nodestone any 3 skills (from the existing skills) can come up, in any order, or are they premade in advance?

I'm asking this because I have a trio with "Heaven's hammer" as a prime skills on lvl 14 and I wanna change the other 2 while keeping the level. So I need to create a lot of Heaven's hammer nodes and hope for the best, of some trios are impossible to get?

I want to have blast and the lightning skill with it, both exist in the list of possible skills, but not even once Ive seen this trio together.
