[Maplestory SEA] Old times, fun times (Warning: Lengthy post)

Returning to Maple after a decade

This was the last I left Maple at – I fondly remember this login screen with the accompanying BGM to the tee.

    https://preview.redd.it/hankk99gdx061.jpg?width=425&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cd0d2cbb9aa91dcb3fc5f43219a3eff396e7312e

    ![img](grplq8qhdx061 " Images from: Engadget ")

Following that was the character creation screen – it had a pretty simple interface. You'd choose your gender, face, hair style and colour, skin tone and starter outfit (Red rubber boots FTW). You'd spend hours on an IGN, frustrated that all your usuals were already taken. So you'll do what any sensible gamer does – use special characters, mixed casings and numbers. "@@eXaMpLe90@@"

After which you'll be whisked away to Maple Island where you'll learn the basics of movement, attack (sorry mushrooms), using portals and potions. I remember reaching level 10 and getting booted off to the main world in search for one of the four job instructors where you'll have to choose between specialisations.

So begins the grind – you soon learn that in order to advance that painfully slow crawling EXP bar, you would need to know the best hunting spots (beat other players to it actually), hours of party quests, learning exploits, joining a supportive guild and so on.
Finally – we arrive at the need to spend. An aesthetic item here, a progression boost there, you start shelling out pocket money to reach that level of 4th job advancement and enviable gear.

That's where I left it – at the peak of all my characters, I shifted my focus to studies and eventually my career.

Fast forward to now, I'm stuffed to the brim with AAA titles on console and PC – but something tugs at my core. I decide to download the now whopping 17.2 GB client.

    https://preview.redd.it/jrkx85lmdx061.png?width=765&format=png&auto=webp&s=cea1cf67558db04bf47dbf2faf055249a94c9a59

I'm greeted with this – where's the wooden post? Where's the familiar tune? I press on (after fumbling about with a series of possible login credentials).

At this point I couldn't remember which worlds I've played in, where my mains were at. I hit a random server and head in – greeted by characters which now seem foreign to me. I take a gamble; there was now a two factor verification pin (good, it seems the game has stepped up on security).

So I'm looking at my level 123 Night Lord – completely stripped of gear. I pop open the skill and attribute windows to find that everything had been reset. Thank the heavens there was now an auto assign for attributes – I was not about to sit there and reassign couple hundred odd of points.

Then came the skills – I used to be able to string fluid combos of skills which were devastating. Now, I couldn't remember the order, the proper hotkeys for it. There were buffs which I remembered had a macro skill button – which allowed quick and easy deployment of multiple buffs at the push of a key.

There were classes I had never seen before moving about with ease – I couldn't even double jump now. I was so out of touch. Then it hit me – I needed to create a new class just to relearn the ropes and get back into the swing of things.

So I did – and I was shocked. Levelling was now…easy? There was an on-going event called Tera burning which basically awarded you with 2 bonus levels each time you levelled. I thought the learning curve would be steep – but MS did a good job of hand holding. Loot which was once rare was now dropping freely. Before I knew it, I was level 130.

The pace of the game has greatly improved – it used to be gaps in between levels which required unbelievable grinding. You needed to rely a lot more on your wits and game know how back in the day – but now MS was an accessible title, breezy.

In short, if you were on the fence about picking this title back up again – do it. It may be daunting at first, but take it in stride and start up a new character. I promise it isn't gonna be as nightmarish as you think. You'll soon be in the swing of things – a pro. Yes, there are some kinks in the game, but there isn't a perfect title.

TLDR: Maple isn't what it was – but it's now more accessible, less grindy. A decade long hiatus shouldn't hinder you. In fact, it might be a pleasant surprise.

V Matrix hurts my head and I need help

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 02:36 AM PST

None of this makes sense to me and every guide I find just confuses me more. Which nodes do I want to keep, which nodes do I want to scrap, when do I want to craft unopened nodestones, have there been any updates to V skills since 5th job came out, what do I specifically want to get, not just in terms of boost nodes, but also in terms of skill nodes? There's more that is confusing me but I don't know how to make it into words so all I'm gonna say is boost nodes are bullshit.

I'm an Aran on Reboot if either of those things change anything.

EDIT: After removing my eyes from the abomination that is the actual V Matrix for a bit I regained my ability to read and have discovered how boost nodes work more or less. I guess my remaining questions are: have 5th job level caps risen at all, which active skills do I want as an Aran, and how do I figure out if I want to buy an unopened nodestone or not?

Frozen gear - should I cube it?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 11:28 PM PST

Now that with the Tera event I got the 30 days CRA, Also gave me the frozen set.

Now that since it's reboot there's no way for me to transfer the gear from my old char, however I got some cubes stacks up in my inventory.

What should I cube my gear next? I got frozen secondary weapon, cape, top, bottom and weapon. If I cube the frozen I would want the set effect which means I won't be using the Black Wing cape from the Tango Mushroom quest, also I'll be using the frozen secondary weapon...

I'm little confused now on if I should cube my frozen set or just stick with pensailir

    Perfect trio node

Out of curiosity, how long has it taken for you guys to get that perfect trio node? I feel like the odds are so slim, almost thinking about settling for just 2/3 of the skills 😂

Crashing in the afk awake chair map

Is anyone else having an issue where the game crashes about 1-2 minutes of afking in the awake map? It happened enough times that the hacking message resulted in a ban until next week.

Do I need to fully scroll gollux rings/abso armor before I use the 17 star karma scroll on it.

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 08:20 PM PST

I am trying to figure out what to use my karma scroll on and I heard a weapon's attack is taken into account when starring. Since, I don't have a perfectly scrolled abso weapon yet, I was wondering if this applies to armor as well?

Why are Absolab weapons so cheap? (Bera)

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 08:06 AM PST

I'm sorta noob, idk how pricing works. So take Absolab Chain... costs 5 Absolab coins = 100 A cores, and since 1 A core = 4m, then 100A = 400m... so if you buy with coins then you're basically spending 400m on the weap.

But why is the weap being sold in auction house for 10m clean?
